Hello,
I am an British backpacker, and had an exposure by a broken condom in Thailand with a CSW. This was at the end of November 2012.
I went back to england at Christmas, and had 2 HIV tests done. One tridot, the other was a lab test.
Both come back negative. Tested at 6weeks.

Because I kept worrying,I did a test in Australia. It was the anti bodie one,and came back negative. This would be at 4month point.

Only reason I'm worrying so much because had sore throat now for over 2months,since been in Australia. So worried the test may not been accurate???

Hope someone can advise me.
Thank you

Hello Dr, I posted here a little while, and I'm back, unfortunately.
The reason of my back, is that I'm desperate, my wife is having some symptoms strange, now 8 weeks after I have had relationship with her unprotected.
Is having some bruising in the leg and a one boil .
My previous post is this:
http://www.freedomhealth.co.uk/forum...-dr-sean-9481/
Remembering, symptoms and my tests:
5 days after I started with a morning nausea for +- 38 days
5 days after developing dizziness and drowsiness for +- 25 days
6 days after development abdominal bloating and heaviness in the stomach for +- 35 days
5 days after developing excess gases by up and down, which last for 50 days
55 days after developing sore throat and some dry mouth, which last the last 23 days
I also had intestinal malabsorption in those days
After 13 days, modular roche Ag p24/ Ab negative (0,35)
After 38 days, modular roche Ag p24 / Ab negative (0,15) and Bio Rad Ag p24/ Ab negative (0,41)
After 42 days, modular roche Ag p24 / Ab negative (0,19)
After 60 days, modular roche Ag p24/ Ab negative (0,21) (Thank God)
Am I a freak, and these tests missed something?
Dr, is there any chance these tests lose their infection, and I doing harm my wife. Sorry, but I'm pretty desperate, help me.
Sorry my English, I speak of Brazil. Sergio R.

Hi Doctors,

Date of the exposure:
On 18th of April 2013

Background:
Please doctors consider seriously every single fact in this background...

Hi Doctors,

Date of the exposure:
On 18th of April 2013

Background:
Please doctors consider seriously every single fact in this background section:

1) I have many dental problems (Broken teeth and some holes in my teeth which caused inflamation to some roots of my teeth).
2) I have some open and fresh sores in my mouth.
3) I have a very weak and poor gum.
4) I have little bumps on the top of my mouth.
5) I have cracked and chapped lips.
6) I live in a very cold country and generally I am a person who has a dry mouth, and I don't have much of saliva n my mouth.

Encounters:
A) I made out with a woman (VERY deep and many French kisses) with tongue for a long time.

Probably we bite each other's lips while kissing and caused little cuts on my lips and her lips too. So, There were a little of blood involved.

B) I touched with my hands the whole body of that woman including her vagina.

Although I did not finger her, But I felt in my fingers that her vagina is a little bit moist.

Please not that a few hours before that I hurt myself with the nail clipper (While cutting my nail I touched the skin under the finger and probably caused a little cut).

C) I kissed and suckled her nipples briefly.

Later on I discovered that the woman is very promiscuous and has been recently tested positive and not on medications yet (Which means her viral load is high).

That's all. There was NO sex involved AT ALL !

Symptoms:
A few days ago, I started having a mild sore throat AND a red/pink spot on my chest exactly under my neck (Sometimes itchy) AND a mild fever AND sometimes a headache.

Doctors, Why am I extremely worried ?
Please Doctors, Be kindl and patient with me, and answer my questions which are as follows:

1) After a houghtful consideration of the aforementioned 6 points in the background section about my gum/teeth/mouth/lips problems. How do you estimate the risks in my encounters: (A), (B), and (C) for HIV or other STD?

2) I spent countless hours and days reading on your forum and other forums about the risks of the french kisses which is Zero, and I read some of your answers on this forum that for a French kiss to be risky there should be a significant amount of blood involved.

I completely respect your knowledge and answers, But please allow my to elaborate my concern.

For example: A male's semen contains so many millions of spermatozoon, However, Only one single spermatozoon is enough to fertilize the ovum and cause a pregnancy (Which is a miracle in itself to occur).

So, Isn't the same apply for the HIV virus? I mean one single virus is enough to cause infection. Could you please explain to me?

3) Why performing oral sex (Giving a fellatio to a man with ejaculation) or performing cunnilingus carries a little HIV risk to the giver? I mean, How is that considered risky, But deep French kisses are not risky at all - Even though it is all through the mouth? Could you please explain to me the difference why oral sex is a little bit risky for the giver and kissing is not?

4) Why am I having all these symptoms (Sore throat + Rash + Fever) together at the same time and after about 4-5 weeks of the exposure ? Could you please tell me your opinion?

Dr. Sean Cummings & Dr. Mervyn Tyrer from FreedomHeath made a YouTube clip about EARLY SYMPTOMS OF HIV on: (EARLY SYMPTOMS OF HIV - YouTube), and at 3:10 Dr. Mervyn said: "Rash could be missed because it look like a reddening of the body"

5) Do I need to do HIV testing or any other STD testing?

6) Can I have unprotected sex with my wife? Or should I wait for 3 months and test?

4 weeks ago,my penis just slipped into a woman's vagina one second without any protection, and I took it out immediately.and then during the other time,I had the protection.
I'm afraid of that is the one second safe?
I am worried about it everyday. And I had had the test at 17th day,22nd day and 28th day, they are all negative. The test is Chemiluminescence method, but it only test the antibody,
Could you please analyze why the risk is low,and is the infective dose not enough or the time is not enough to be infected(how much time is enough)?
And can you conclude that I am safe now?And can I not test again?
Thank you for your answer!

Hi, I have read that a hand job is "entirely zero risk". Would the exact same go for rubbing the penis between a girls breast and on the outside of the buttcheeks of a girl, if she is infected with HIV ?.

I did these things with a prostitute, I also fingered here were briefly on the outside of her vagina and might have masturbated myself with that hand (didn't feel any wetness). There were no vaginal, oral or anal sex. And my penis never came in contact with her vagina or anal. I only used my saliva as lubricant, not hers. So would these activities be the same "entirely zero risk" as a hand job, or is there some way i could get infected from this episode ?

I have a concern and I am wondering if I should be worried about anything that I could of taken part in.

I am a 24 year old male, who may of possibly engaged in possible risky sexual behavior over the weekend (12th May), with another male. I am mainly concerned about where or not I may have engaged in something that could of possible exposed me to catching HIV.

It was with a male partner which I met online, who I know nothing about.

The first scenario was when I was laying on my front, and he was on top of me. As far as I can remember was that he rubbed his penis on and against my bottom, but did not push himself all the way in me. Although it was just rubbing, I did notice he had pre-cum and this is what concerns me the most. Could I have picked up an infection (HIV) from this type of activity.

Second scenario, he was laying on his back and I was sitting on him, facing him. Although I don't remember him inserting himself inside my bottom, I'm worried about whether or not he might of again rubbed his penis (with pre-cum) on/ against my bottom or bottom opening, or even entered for a split second.

Similarly, there was an instant where his penis (with pre-cum) came into contact with the area beneath my scrotum, between my legs, in my groin area (no cuts or bruises). I'm not sure if this is all classified as risky behavior, but I am concerned.

Please note I did notice him producing pre-cum all throughout the encounter and I'm just worried if I might of picked up anything.

Also, as we were both dribbling with precum at a point, I remember sharing the same piece of cloth to wipe the pre-cum off ourselves. I pretty much used the same cloth to wipe myself striaght after him. Stupid of me to, but I'm worried if I might of caught anything (HIV)

I would really appreciate it if you please answer my questions and concerns.

Thank you,

Hi Doctor,

I require your opinion on testing that I have done.

Hi Doctor,

I require your opinion on testing that I have done.

I hope you can help me with information on when an hiv test would be considered conclusive. I am from South Africa.

I had an exposure to a persons blood on my hand. My skin was intact and had no visible cuts. I didn't know the person or his status. He had been assaulted and all I did was give him a hand standing up. When I got home I noticed a small amount of blood on my index finger.

I washed it off with water and detol. I didnt think much of it at the time but a few days later decided to call my doctor and ask what he thought. His reaction was I had to come and see him immediately, so I did. This was four days after the exposure. He said due to the high amount of people with hiv in our country I should treat it as if the blood was positive. And he put me on combivir which I took for 30 days twice a day.

Two weeks after stopping the medicine, so on the 14th day after pep. I had the qualitative DNA pcr test at lancet laboratories and it was negative.

My doctor said that was conclusive and I was fine. The anxiety of the whole experience made me look up a few things on the Internet that led to conflicting info. But generally it seemed that a negative Antibody test at 3 months is conclusive yet others say 6 months.

So I tested with the insti rapid finger prick test at 11, 12 and 15 weeks post exposure at dischem. All the results where negative as well. Would this be considered conclusive or is 6 months the conclusive test?

My main concerns are that during the period of touching the mans hand and noticing the blood that I may have rubbed my eye or picked my nose. And that I also had symptoms of ars from about two weeks after stopping pep, I don't know if it was because of stress and awaiting my test result. I got a sore throat and blocked ears, swollen glands etc but no rash or weighet loss. I also lost my appetite for a while and found it hard to eat.

Sorry for the long message I'm just trying to give you as much info as possible about my situation.

Are the tests I have had accurate at the times taken and would you consider them conclusive or would more tests still be needed?

Thank you for any advice you may be able to provide me with. It has been a terrible experience for me and am desperate to put this behind me with confidence on my negative status.

Hi Dr,

I'm planning to come for the 10 day HIV RNA PCR test in a couple of weeks...

I've been taking oral steroids (Prednisone, for eczema). Can this have any effect on the reliability of the test?

I’m aware that Prednisone reduces the function of your immune system. Perhaps this would affect the body’s ability to produce HIV antibodies (and thus the reliability of the antibody test). However, the RNA test looks for the virus itself – presumably if Prednisone did have any effect, the result would be an increase in actual virus levels rather than a decrease?

It’s important for me to know that the test will be as accurate as it’s meant to be (>99pc) of course.

Secondly, I just wanted to confirm that you don’t get any false positives with this test. My understanding is any results that are initially positive are confirmed using a quantitative test, which checks actual virus levels against a minimum threshold? I will be on holiday so won’t really want to receive any false positive / ’undecided’ results..!

Thanks very much for your help

Dear Dr Jose/Dr Sean

I have gone through many threads on this forum and medhelp where you recommend doing an HIV DUO test at 28 days even after the a Negative HIV RNA Qualtitative (detection) test done after 12 days.

Q-1 - Does this apply even after unprotected oral ( being sucked)? for a conclusive result?

Q-2- The confusion is if the HIV RNA test is 99.9% accurate why would there be a need to do an HIV DUO test at 28 days?

Q-3 - Is this recommendation only for high risk exposures? and if so why, if you could elaborate.

Q-4 - Have you come across any False Negatives with HIV RNA test and hence you recommend an HIV DUO at 28 days?

Please provide some detailed understanding for me and the others confused about this.

thank you
