Is allergy testing something that can be done at Freedomhealth? A lass on one of my music forums had what appears to be a severe allergic reaction to a veggie pasty and would like to find the cause of it. Would BUPA cover an IgE profile at your path labs?
I'm assuming IgE is the most reliable method of food allergy testing.

Well, about 5 minutes after I started eating, I got a terrible cramping pain in my stomach, really sick bloated feeling and a kind of 'burning' pain in my throat and chest, hard to describe. Started feeling a bit woozy. Then about 15 minutes later my ears and hands were all red, swollen and itchy, then I got a blotchy rash over my face, neck and chest and my head itched really badly, area round my eyes went puffy and lumpy, and my lips and tongue swelled up. Felt my throat tightening up a bit as well but breathing wasn't too hard - swallowing was getting a bit uncomfortable though. Symptoms started to go within 10 mins of being injected with anti-histamine.
The paramedics and the doctor I saw were convinced it was a food allergy given the symptoms and the fact it came on as soon as I ate lunch.

Hello, there!
We can indeed perform full allergy testing in our clinic, including blood tests for total IgE with individual IgE allergens for specific substances, including foods, nuts, seeds, fish, inhalants, etc. Results usually take about 48 hours. If it is covered by BUPA, you will need to check with them as it depends on the different policies.
Best wishes,
Jose
