Hello Dr Jose. I would like to know if is quite normal to have 2 UTI in 2 months.
I am a 37 y.o woman who never had infection in urine till now. I am a bit worried, because the first time, 6th October had a lot of blood in urine, and the second time, 9th Dicember the doctor said to me that could be for sexual intercourse. I started a relaction with a man in September, we was using condons every single time until we decide to have a full std test and start a monougamous relactionship, he tested 16th october with a duo test for vih ( he said the last sexual encounter was in July) but he didnt check other std and we haven“t used condons since then. I tested for everything ( hep a, b, c, herpes, vph, vih, gon, clam...) 28th october and all was clear.
I would like to know the window period for other Std, not vih ( I know is 4 weeks and I dont want to think that the test is wrong)
Is it possible urine infection for a lot of sexual activity? could be dangerous sexual intercourse during period?
what could cause this? I dont know if there are not relaction but I had uti 1 weeks after period and my periods are since 3 months ago diferents than before ( more blood and less pain)
Hello, there!
Urinary tract infections are very in common in women, and they are sexually transmitted, even though in some cases sexual intercourse can increase or trigger their occurrence, but also being run down, stressed, etc. can be a factor, as well as hormonal changes. Blood in urine is a common of bladder infections and you should not be alarmed by it. Infections like Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Trichomona, Gardnerella, Mycoplasma, Ureaplasma, etc can be detected already only days after infection. With HIV and syphilis, one would need to wait at least four weeks. Hepatitis A, B and C would usually require slightly longer, but never more than 3 months. One can have conclusive negative results regarding hepatitis by checking all the antibodies, as well as the antigen. With herpes, I would only recommend a swab if any painful rash appears; however one can have a blood test to check for serology, and this would be reliable four weeks after possible infection.
In any case, UTIs are not symptoms of any of these sexually transmitted infections. However, as I said earlier, sexual activity can increase their incidence. You need to make sure that you are well-lubricated. Having sex during periods is not dangerous whatsoever.
Have you started taking the oral contraceptive? That might be the reason for the changes in your menstruations, but also sometimes it can change the pH of the vagina, and that can sometimes be a trigger for UTIs. As mentioned, hormonal changes might be the cause and you might need to look into it.
If the incidence of UTIs continues, my advice would be for you to have some investigations in the form of blood test and ultrasound scans of your urinary tract.
Best wishes,
Jose
I dont have any contraceptive pills, because I am thinking seriously in get pregnant (because that I asked him to test and dont use condom), but now I dont know if I should wait.
They checked me for diabetes also and I am ok.
It is for me a bit embarasing ask this, but...I am always very well lubricated, but might it be related to the numbers of encounters and the size of the penis?
I would understand that you dont answer this post ( too many, I know).
Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad english
Hello, there!
I think your English is excellent. No need to apologise!
There is certainly a possible increase in the rate of UTIs and frequency of sexual intercourse. I am not aware of a connection of UTIs and large penises.
To be honest, it might just be an unlucky patch. You might not get any more infections in the next few months, but if you do, you might need to go back to your doctor an have further investigations.
Best wishes and kind regards,
Jose
....for everything, very kind.
Next friday I will check, full test, blood and urine, just to know...
It is horrible being a hypochondriac psycologist...poor future baby
