I used your services a little while ago and Dr Sean went to great lengths to put me at ease hence my return.
I recently and very stupidly had sex with a sex worker where the condom broke and hence I was unprotected for about 20-25 seconds maximum as I soon recognised something felt wrong. We then began anew with a fresh condom but naturally there was a period of exposure.
The woman involved was a White English Woman who advised me she was last tested herself 4 months ago and has only had unprotected sex once with her long term partner since then and that was once. She assured me then I was fine and 48 hours later after I contacted her again to be sure.
I am a circumcised male and put it down to stupidly. Then came the symptom I have, about2-3 days later I suffered with a mild chill which lasted at most 24 hours then the left gland in my neck had swollen up.
A few days later this passed and it moved swapping sides so now my left is good and my right is swollen with some mild discomfort in swallowing (not infected though puss wise)
As usual everyone around me seems to have colds etc so I am suspecting it’s just a cold type thing as I have no other main symptoms of HIV or anything else apart from the neck pain. I am 7 days post exposure so I am guessing I should put it down to stupidly and stay clear of the wrong type of places.
Sadly I am on holiday so can’t get tested for 10 days more (and hardly relaxing due to nerves). Is my anxiety flaring up again as from what I have seen it’s too early to be HIV symptoms normally to appear.
They started 2-3 days after the incident and its progressed from one side of my throat to the other.
Hope your well and can best advice?
In terms of risk there was oral performed by her (unprotected) and I did not perform any oral on her. There was then the brief moment where the condom did split and when I checked it was very split. We then used a fresh one.
(Sorry for the repost the first one had PayPal issues)
Hello,
Thank you very much for your post and apologies for the delay in the reply as we have had some software problems with the forum.
I would first of all like to reassure you. Your symptoms cannot be those of HIV sero-conversion as they have developed far too soon since the above mentioned sexual encounter with brief condom failure. Therefore they cannot be related with HIV and they are most likely related to a simple viral illness compounded with stress and worry.
Even if the lady was to be positve, which I doubt (statistically she is most likely to be a low risk group and negative as a white female in the UK), the risk for you is relatively low as a circumcised heterosexual male having protected vaginal intercourse with a very brief unprotected episode due to condom breakage, well below 0.1% (less than 1 in 1,000); much less than that not knowing her status. Therefore try not to worry as I am sure that you are absolutely fine. You can always have a Duo test at 28 days just for peace of mind and I am totally convinved that it will be negative.
Best wishes,
José
