Default Anxious

Hi Docs,

First of all, congrats for the very well structured site and forum/s.

I would appreciate your advice. I am writing from outside the UK. I am a male, married with family, 40yrs old. One month ago I went to a strip club in North Italy when on a business trip and ended up receiving unprotected oral from a female worker there for about 30seconds that ended in a hand job. This was the first time for me (and will be the last) and since then I have been quite anxious especially regarding the possibility of picking up HIV and hepatitis.

This anxiety is affecting my work and family relationships (and probably my overall health also). I am constantly on the net googling for related info/signs/symptoms and I am also constantly scrutinising my body for any spots (that I find but not sure if they were there already), feeling lymph nodes (not sure where to find them). I also experienced a sort of swollen/hard tummy that could be from the over-eating from the anxiety or could be something else if you think otherwise. No other symptoms as yet.

Can you pls guide me on the extent of the risk involved re the above and what way forward you would recommend (tests etc.).

Many thanks

Hello

Thank you for your nice comments.

You are not at risk of hepatitis or hiv from the event described. You will not acquire HIV from being sucked - not possible.

The only likely condition is perhaps gonorrhoea or chlamydia from her throat. These are easily tested for and easily treated these days.

You will read that herpes and syphilis are possible through being sucked - I would agree but say barely possible and really unlikely for both.

I would relax re HIV and hepatitis and ignore all your funny aches and pains. Get tested just for chlamydia and gonorrhoea when you can and then you're done and dusted.

best regards, Sean
