Hi Doc's,
I wrote to you about 7 weeks ago,My story was that while on holiday in spain I had been with an Escort(she was white female) she gave me oral sex and we had vaginal sex both with a condom on,i'm pretty sure the condom stayed intact and in place the whole time,I didn't even cum in her as I pulled out and finished the job myself with the condom on.Doctor Jose got back to me saying he didn't even think I needed to get tested for hiv or any other std as it was safe sex,so even though i was still very very worried about what i had done I was starting to get my head around it and belive i was fine,so the reason I'm posting to you again is this!!! Just into my 9th week since the event I got some marks on my chest and stomach there was maybe 6 or 7 that i could see, they were reddish in color and maybe very very slightly raised(was hard to tell if they were at all) Can you tell me does this sound anything like a hiv rash?what i had was not sore or itchy, i could just see it,what does a hiv rash look and feel like?(my marks were smaller than a penny and some not even half the size of a penny)now almost a week later the marks are almost faded away.About a week to a week in a half before i got the rash i had a little cold,i.e.abit of a sore throat and a little under the weather,no fever and didn't need to stay in bed or anything like that,my little 18 month old boy had a cold to so i just thought i had got it from him,how sick would you feel if you had the flu type cold you get with early hiv?would you be very sick?does what i had sound like it to you?
I can't tell you just how worried i am over this,i'm finding it hard to eat or sleep and sometimes i just breakdown and start crying with worry,I'm married with a little boy and am so afraid of losing my famliy, hope you can help ease my worry, please please could you answer me as soon as possible i feel like i'm goin out of my mind with this,
Hello,
Thank you for your new post. I am afraid that it is me, Dr Jose, again replying to your query.
Even after these symptoms, my advice to you has not changed. You did not put yourself at risk of HIV or any other STI, and therefore these symptoms do not have anything to do with a sexually transmitted infection or with your sexual encounter in Spain.
Moreover, the timing does not correlate with that of acute HIV sero-conversion as this would happen anytime between two and six weeks after infection and not later than that. Secondly the symptoms are not typical either; your rash does not sound liek the typical maculo-papular rash of HIV sero-conversion (this is what it looks like normally: http://www.picturesdepot.com/images/...ular+rash.html ), and it would always come at the same time as a very high fever, severe sore throat and severe malaise. You need to relax, you DO NOT have HIV. Your symptoms are most likely to be related to a simple cold or simple viral illness; this is that time of the year...
Best wishes,
José
thank you very much for your response,it has eased my mind a little, can I just ask you a couple of questions! You said that with acute sero conversion you would get severe sore throat+severe malaise and a very high fever, can I take it this would not feel like a simple cold and that you would feel very very sick if you had this? Also the picture you sent me of the rash,is this what it would look like if you got it with those other symptoms? I.e. Would it look that bad at that early stage?mine looked nothing like that.
I'm really sorry about doin your head in with this doc,so you really think I have nothing to worry about?
Hi Jay,
I honestly do not believe that you need to worry at all about it.
Most people woudl get severe symptoms and these usually happen all at the same time. The fact that your rash did not look like the one on the picture would confirm that your rash has nothing to do with HIV sero-conversion.
Best,
José
Hi doctor Jose,
Thanks again for your help, can I just ask you one more thing, next Friday will be 12 weeks since the event so I think I'm going to get tested but I'm still scared of what results I'll get back, can I just ask you percent wise on what I have told you, how confident would you be I'll get the negative result I need
Hi Jay,
As I have already mentioned, I am very confident that your test result will be negative. Therefore try not to worry so much. It is a good idea to have the test so that you can get the peace of mind that you need.
Best wishes,
José
just to let you know I had my STD screen 3 months to the day of the event,I got the results the other day everything came back clear which I'm really happy about,I'm not sure what kind of test it was?I live in Ireland maybe you know?anyway do you think I will need to test again in a few months to make sure or should that be enough?thanks again for all your help I feel like a new person since I got the results.
As Jose said at the outset, you were never at risk from HIV from your activity. You've had tests which were probably unnecessary but they have put your mind at rest. So now leave it all to settle and forget it.
