Exclamation clarification

Hello Dr.

I received these results from TDL at roughly 4 months after a protected anal exposure where I was on top. I have had anal sex roughly 11/12 times with 5 people, 4 of whcih were one offs. I have had a HIV test DUO at 28 days, 40-odd days, 90 days and 6 month mark (as well as INSTI test at 3 and 6 month mark) - all negative.

BIOCHEMISTRY
BILIRUBIN 15 umol/L 0 - 20
ALKALINE PHOSPHATASE 70 IU/L 40 - 129
ASPARTATE TRANSFERASE 19 IU/L 0 - 37
ALANINE TRANSFERASE 21 IU/L 10 - 50
GAMMA GT 37 IU/L 10 - 71
TOTAL PROTEIN 72 g/L 63 - 83
ALBUMIN *51 g/L 34 - 50
GLOBULIN 21 g/L 19 - 35
ENDOCRINOLOGY
Syphilis IgG/IgM by EIA Negative
Please note change in reporting format due to
change in methodology, effective 05/11/09

HEPATITIS "A" PROFILE
Anti-Hepatitis 'A' (IgG/IgM) Negative
Comment No evidence of Hepatitis A infection
Susceptible to Hepatitis A infection

HEPATITIS "B" PROFILE
HBsAg Negative
Anti-HBs <10 mIU/ml
Anti-HBc (IgG/IgM) Negative
No evidence of Hepatitis B infection.

Hep.C Ab ELISA ( 3rd Gen ) Not Detected
Method used for HEPC: Roche Modular

I just want to double check that everything is A-OK. I worried that the albumin level was slightly up, but my GP said not to bother. I read online that it is a low albumin level that is a sign of a Hep infection. A higher one could be due to dehydration? is that correct?

After 3.5/4 months are these tests conclusive? Would I have detectable anti bodies regardless whether I displayed symptoms or not by this time period?

As I said, I just want to make sure everything is ok regarding these tests. I have always had protected sex too, and I believe Hep B and C are not transmitted via oral sex, so even if I did not have the tests I would not be at risk.

Anyway, with all the above, would you said that I am Hep negative. My doc said, he would normally do a liver function tests first before a Hep panel as if i had hep, certainly after 4 months the LFT would display it.

Thanks Dr for the clarification.

Why are they often 'abnormal' - I read that the results can be slightly higher if one is dehydrated is that correct?

Also, out of general curiosity, is it a low albumin results that is indicative of the virus?

Thanks a lot.

Also Dr, I was worried that the lab TDL could have made a mistake with my specimen. I know you use them. Have you ever had an issue where specimens have been mixed up before? I think I am over-reacting, as I believe TDL has a terrific reputation.

Thank-you very much.

This really is too wide a question - the Forum is confined to sexual health issues - you do not have a sexually transmitted disease.

Also, out of general curiosity, is it a low albumin results that is indicative of the virus?no
With respect to your question about TDL getting your results wrong - yes, mistakes are possible - but I'm afraid I don't buy that either. There's nothing wrong with you mate despite your enthusiasm to have something.

best regards, Sean

Thank you dr.

I was just worried because I seem to have a complete intolerance to alcohol - when I drink it I get a pain in my shoulder. Apparently its referred pain. My liver also becomes sore and I get a pain from It . So I just do not drink anything, but that worries me.

Last question, do you think after six months of exposure, I would have had symptoms by now, had I contractd the virus? I know you are thinking, irrelevant because you do not have it, but if yould answer the question (jopefully in the affirmative) that will greatly help me believe the results.

Not necessarily as it varies. In any case, it is irrelevant in your case becuase it has already been excluded.
Kind regards,
José
