Post Combo Test

Hi,

I had protected sex but unprotected oral sex with a Casual Sex Worker. About a week later I had penile discharge (with mild burning sensation and urgency to urinate) and external genital warts. On the 9th day of "suspected" post exposure I went to the doctor, was treated for the discharge and blood sample taken for HIV and VDRL. The discharge stopped completely after 3 days.

The HIV 1 and 2 for P24 and Antibody was Negative. VDRL Non-Reactive.

I repeated the HIV test after 5 weeks and 4 days, and the test done with HIV 1 and 2 Ab/Ag Combo ELISA method and the result was fortunately Negative.

I have read in your forum about the accuracy of the 4th Generation tests with the window period being 28 days. What would be your opinion in my case? I do not have any symptoms other than nightmares and worries. And currently being treatedwith liquidified nitrogen for my EGW. And I did not have any scar, sore or any form of bleeding at the time of contact. Your kind assistance is highly appreciated.

Hi, there!
Your second HIV test was conclusive at that period of time, therefore no need to keep worrying about HIV. The diagnosis of your problem, apart from the genital warts, was either Gonorrhoea or Chlamydia, which was originally treated with antibiotics, and that is probably all. Only one comment: the syphilis test (VDRL) done at nine days would not be conclusive, I am afraid, as it would have been too early.
Best wishes,
Jose

Default Vdrl

Dear Doc,

Thanx for the reassuarance. I feel better ever since reading the FreedomHealth Forums.

Is it necessary for me to do another VDRL test as my "exposure" is about 10 weeks now? No symptoms or rashes at all.

I am glad I did the HIV test at 5 weeks 4 days though the doctors here insist on 3 and 6 months. Perhaps the National guideline has not been amended here (Malaysia).

Thank you.

You could do the VDRL now and that should now be conclusive. Even better, the syphilis serology for IgG and IgM antibodies would be a far more reliable test.
Best wishes,
Jose

Can syphilis be transmitted by oral sex ( through Saliva) ? Is having syphilis indicate HIV present?

Thanks

You asked:-

Hi Doc,

Can syphilis be transmitted by oral sex ( through Saliva) ?Absolutely yes, if the person who sucked you is syphilis positive - although if the sucker was a female then syphilis would be most unlikely Is having syphilis indicate HIV present? No, not at all

Default Syphilis

Hi Doc,

Just for my own knowledge, since you have said "Absolutely yes, if the person who sucked you is syphilis positive - although if the sucker was a female then syphilis would be most unlikely "....

In my case, the "sucker" was female. But then what is the difference between a male and female if assuming both could have been infected with syphilis?

11 weeks have passed and so far have not developed any of the common symptoms of syphilis. Is it recommended to get a test done though?

thanks and cheers

Default Syphilis

Hello

In my case, the "sucker" was female. But then what is the difference between a male and female if assuming both could have been infected with syphilis? Syphilis infection rates in the UK have increased massively in the last 8 years or so - by a vast amount - but almost entirely restricted to the gay/bisexual male population. Syphilis in young heterosexuals is exceptionally rare still. Since you are seemingly heterosexual I think you can avoid a test but maybe include it in your next set of screens whnever that is due.
