I am gay man and on December 22 while having oral sex the guy ejaculated in my mouth. On January 25th I had an HIV blood test (I'm guessing it was Elisa ) and the next day I was informed that it came back positive. On January 26th I gave a new blood sample at the same clinic which underwent the same test and came back negative. After retesting my first sample the results this time were equivocal. Both samples where sent for a confirmatory test and two weeks later I was informed that they were both negative.
Though the nurses and doctors were very reassuring I have wanted to do a new test now that 12 weeks have passed but I am particularly frightened to undergo the same process. i have abstained from any sexual activity in the meantime and generally I have always been obsessively careful and protective of my health since I started being sexually active. Would a one minute test be a good way to end my fears? What are the chances of my being infected the way I described in the first place?
I am sorry to hear of your problems with the testing.
It seems on balance that you are in fact HIV negative.
It does happen occasionally that we have a patient with a false positive result - not often, but sometimes.
These always generate a huge amount of anxiety and fright as with you.
I would suggest taking an instant test - say the INSTI and also requesting an old fashioned Western Blot or an HIV RNA PCR at 12 weeks. The Western Blot and PCR take about 5 to 7 days to be returned to us by our lab but the combination of both of the instant and the western blot/pcr will prove to you that you are indeed HIV negative.
