Hi there,
There is a small chance I have had a possible exposure to hiv- i had my drink spiked and a 2hr memory blank. I had a DNA PCR at 12 days which was negative and I came to your clinic last week and had a DUO at 25 days which was also negative. I don't really have any symptoms i'm just wondering how confident I can be with these results as I know the DUO should be performed at 28 days and i'm not sure of the accuracy of the DNA PCR.
Many thanks for your help.
Emma
I think irrespective of the "risk" underlying the tests will correctly identify whether you are HIV positive or not.
Your risk is entirely speculative and in my experience most of the "spiking" is actually just inebriation with alcohol. It is most probable that you were simply blind drunk. The concept of an additional significant sexual exposure with an HIV positive person is unlikely.
The tests you have had will have definitely ruled out HIV for you. I understand the limitations in terms of the HIV DUO but actually we know that in general they perform better than the stated 28 day time frame. The PCR is exceptionally accurate and I would be content with that alone.
