I am a 17 yer old guy with no experience sexually until a few months ago and to be honest it may have put me off for life. I am so confused and feel so stupid and I wonder if you could give me some advice and hopefully make me feel better.
A few months ago I met a lad on line, he was 18 and we went out in his car. I sucked his penis for maybe 2 mins max and some of that time was spent sucking his testicals, so not long. He did not ejaculate in my mouth infact he didn't ejaculate at all. I didn't see anything that looked like pre cum - but i guess i wouldn't. I had no sores/cuts in my mouth that i know of no bleeding gums.
Now I would have thought I wasn't at much risk until 3 weeks and 5 days later when the lymph node at back of my head got swollen (occipital) it swelled up quite big but started going down after about 3 days, although it didn't vanish for over a week. I didn't have any other symptoms at all, no fever, rash, sore throat etc etc... just that and I tried to check my groin, neck armpits and none of them had lumps that i could feel.
Then i went on line and googled occipital lymph nodes and i find all these articles saying how it likely to be HIV. One site doesn't even give any other likely illnesses it just says occipiotal lymph node = HIV
anyway I guess my questions are..
1) Does my symptom make you panic for me and think I have HIV?
2) Have either of you ever in your experience met someone whose ARS symptoms was just the same as mine?
3) You say HIV from oral sex is low risk - i read 0.04 on here somewhere? I know you might laugh at me but is 0.04 small? like 1 in a thousand? Would my risk be smaller than 0.04 because the lad was younger? there was no ejaculation? it was quick etc?
I know you probably think i'm a fool but because I did tha google search I am now convinced that I caught HIV twelve weeks ago. I have even been writing things down like @ 9 weeks I had diahorrhea and at 11 weeks i had two mouth ulcers - am so paniced.
I certainly don't think you're a fool but I do think you are worrying unnecessarily. You will not become HIV positive from this event.
You asked:-
) Does my symptom make you panic for me and think I have HIV?
no, not at all - you are searching for something that s not there
2) Have either of you ever in your experience met someone whose ARS symptoms was just the same as mine?ARS symptoms can take many forms so when we look at people with risk factors we tend to look at them in entirety - the fact is with you that you are most unlikely to have met an HIV positive 18 year old male; you are exceptionally unlikely even if he were to be HIV positive to have acquired HIV from him and finally, your symptoms are completely unconvincing for new onset HIV
3) You say HIV from oral sex is low risk - i read 0.04 on here somewhere? I know you might laugh at me but is 0.04 small? like 1 in a thousand? Would my risk be smaller than 0.04 because the lad was younger? there was no ejaculation? it was quick etc? YES, 0.04 is absolutely tiny risk if at all - I would say that your "risk" was inconsequential because of what I've written above
I know you probably think i'm a fool but because I did tha google search I am now convinced that I caught HIV twelve weeks ago. I have even been writing things down like @ 9 weeks I had diahorrhea and at 11 weeks i had two mouth ulcers - am so paniced.
I think you should relax. Obviously if you remain concerned then you should have an HIV test but actually I don't believe from what you have said that there is any realistic prospect of you having HIV from this event - I really think you are fine.
Thankyou doctor Sean and thanks for posting on a Sunday too, that was really kind of you.
You have made me feel much much better and I will not get a test as I trust what you say.
Am I allowed a follow up question, if so...
You said my symptoms are unconvincing of HIV.....
Why is that? Is it that the Occipital lymph node is not the place that swells or is it the length of time it took to swell or the length of time is was up etc.
glad you haven't answered yet - promise this my last question, i meant to add, could any other STD passed on through oral cause the swollen lymph node on back of neck above hairline?
A single enlarged lymph node in isolation is not a typical symptom of HIV sero-conversion. In addition to that, you did not put yourself at any significant. HIV risk in the first place.
It is certainly possible to contract other infections through oral sex, such as throat Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea, and even syphilis. Some of these infections can casue enlarged lymph nodes in the neck area.
Best wishes,
José
