6 weeks ago, I had an encounter with a male escort in London. We kissed and he lay on top of me (face to face) as we practiced mutual masturbation. Our penises touched, but we mostly were grinding against each other's pelvic regions. No penetration. I ejaculated and he did not.
Two days later, I started feeling a general discomfort in my pubic region and then a sharp pain at the urethral opening on my penis.
At 10 days, I had a urethral swab PCR at your clinic, and it came back negative for the normal bacteria. Dr. Sean put me on doxycycline for 8 days, twice a day (I never took the last pill).
After that 10th day, I developed a low-grade fever, with body aches. Nasal mucous was clear.
Never had any penis discharge, but I noticed a small pimple (about 2mm large) at the urethral opening, where I'd been experiencing the sharp pain. This came about after about 2-3 weeks from the incident.
At around 2 weeks (a few days after starting doxycycline), I started feeling back pain and perineal pain. I went to a urologist 2 and a half weeks ago (about a month after the incident), and after an ultrasound he diagnosed me with prostatitis and put me on 4 weeks of levofloxacin.
Yesterday, the prostate symptoms and penis pain went away suddenly (after a half day of diarrhea after my family all got viral gastroenteritis), but I developed tingling on my hands and feet, more in the hands than the feet.
I have not had any blood tests.
My concerns are:
1. Was I at risk of HIV (and could I have been experiencing ARS)? I had read that prostatitis and tingling hands/feet could be sign of HIV.
2. Was I at risk of syphilis? I didn't really have a sore but more of a small bump that was skin-coloured, and this is tingling, not a rash.
Hello,
Thank you very much for your post and apologies ofr the delay to reply as we have had software problems with this forum.
Your sexual encounter did not involve any risk of HIV infection at all wahtsoever. Therefore no need to even worry about this. You need to have unprotected penetration to put yourself at risk.
As tested by my colleague Dr Sean, the only STDs that you might have contracted would have been those easy to transmit through external genital contact only i.e. Chlamydia, Gonorrrhoea, NSU, etc. There is a theoretical risk of syphilis and due to some of the symptoms experienced, this should be exlcuded with a blood test.
Best wishes,
José
