Well, to say the last 12 weeks of my life have been life changing would be the understatement of the year. Although in the role you both serve to so many of us, I would imagine my scenario is prob not even one you see that is too far from the norm on a day in and day out basis.
13 weeks ago I made arguably the worst decision of my entire life. I wondered into a massage parlor when I was on business and during the session, the massage parlor girl gave me six seconds of unprotected oral sex. She went up and down on my penis twice (if this sounds familiar, I posed a similar question with regard to the HIV risk from this encounter) and I immediately told her to stop. So my questions are around literally six seconds or less of insertive oral sex. I am married, have never done this before, and would never do this again.
Throughout the last 12 weeks I have been a complete mess, I have been tested at the 3 week mark (PCR DNA) and the Six Week Mark With Blood Drawn Antibody, and then 8,9,10,11 and as of yesterday 12 week negative rapid antibody - all negative.
In the spirit of really getting my health in check, I went to get a routine physical to which they did lab work. The labs revealed SLIGHTLY elevated liver enzymes, to which the nurse told me the doctor would like to do more testing do determine if this is fatty liver, or something more serious like hepatitis. It is worthy of mention, that at the 9 week mark, 63 days post exposure, I had a full panel STD test done, to which came back negative for Hepatitis B / C. It is worthy of mention that I am also overweight - not obese - but certainly could stand to lose 30+ pounds.
Given the last 12 weeks, and the fact that I had finally begun to accept that I was HIV negative from this episode, you can imagine this call has now sent my anxiety skyrocketing. So here are my questions:
1) Was there any risk at all of me contracting Hepatitis B or C from this six second oral sex exposure?
2) What my test done within a window period that is valid? Is the nine week negative test conclusive that I did not pick up Hepatitis from this brief oral episode?
I literally have been crippled with new fear, and mostly out of a lack of knowledge of risk factors, and my hope is one of you amazing doctors can help me. The life lessons have been learned, now I just want to put this behind me and move on with my life.
Please if you dont mind give me a sense of what the risks were from the six seconds of of insertive oral sex
You're right in your assessment that you predicament and the questions posed are very very commonplace for us.
I should say at the outset from the detail provided that you are not infected with hepatitis B or C.
You have asked two main questions:-
Quote:
1) Was there any risk at all of me contracting Hepatitis B theoretical only - it is I suppose possible although I have no knowledge of any reported cases - in addition your liver function tests are only mildly elevated, you have negative tests for hepatitis B and you are very overweight meaning that fatty liver is the leading candidate. If you drink alochol in addition to a fatty liver that will further complicate your blood results.or Cno - emphatically not from this six second oral sex exposure?
2) What my test done within a window period that is valid? Is the nine week negative test conclusive that I did not pick up Hepatitis from this brief oral episode?yes - as I say, the combination of factors you describe are extremely reassuring to me and it is likely that you abnormal LFT's are due to your food/alcohol intake and size.
I am sending this from my blackberry, and could not tell if my previous follow up questions went through or not.
I also had the results of a hep b / c test don't at the 12+ week mark come back negative for both. So at the 9 and 12 week mark, both tests were negative.
I went in and saw my doctor, as he has ordered more tests to rule out the possibility of other conditions and asked if I could see my labs, specfically my LFT. Since part of your assessment was based on my liver tests, i have a bit more information to share from that perspective; my AST was 80 versus a normal range of 0-40. My ALT was absolutely slightly elevated as it was outside of normal by 2.
My doctor indicated that in an acute hep case, more of the other areas of the panel would be elevated, and my score would be significantly higher.
Here are hopefully my final few questions:
1) You made your assessment based on me reporting "slightly" elevated liver tests, to me my AST of 80 seems more than slightly elevated, does this change your asessment?
2) judging from your message, the only "theoretical risk" is hepatitis B. Is that correct? If so have does this second test at 3 months rule out that possibility? So hep c is not a possibility (the formatting on your response made it unclear)
3) I drink less than five times per year, but my diet is certainly less than stellar (you indicated alcohol could play a role in the elevation).
3) Do I need to "Forget this" in terms of hepatitis being a possibility?
If you received this twice, I apologize, as I mistakenly hit send. Thank you doctor for taking time out of your saturday to help me.
1) You made your assessment based on me reporting "slightly" elevated liver tests, to me my AST of 80 seems more than slightly elevated, does this change your asessment?no - you have a very mild elevation - your doctor is behaving/processing the facts absolutely appropriately - but you most certainly do not have an infective hepatitis -
2) judging from your message, the only "theoretical risk" is hepatitis B. Is that correct? yessirIf so have does this second test at 3 months rule out that possibility? yesSo hep c is not a possibility (the formatting on your response made it unclear)hep c is not a possibility
3) I drink less than five times per year, but my diet is certainly less than stellar (you indicated alcohol could play a role in the elevation).ok - alcohol does often play a role - but fatty liver mimics alcohol induced liver change - excess food is likely to be the causative agent
3) Do I need to "Forget this" in terms of hepatitis being a possibility? yep
If you received this twice, I apologize, as I mistakenly hit send. Thank you doctor for taking time out of your saturday to help me.no problem at all - and I did see the values as well - nothing to fret about - if you lose your 30lbs they will normalise
