I hope you can help me. I live someway away from you so I'm hoping that I can get a test from you by post and then send it back? I've used you before and I've got to say the service was excellent thank you.
I've had a bit of a nightmare. I'm separated from my husband but there's a good chance we'll be getting back together..…we've got on much better since we haven't been living together than we have for years! Anyway the point is that when we weren't together I had a fling with a man from work who I've known for years. The bad thing is that after we'd had sex he told me that he'd was positive for both types of herpes including genital herpes. I'm very anxious now that if I turn up on my husbands door with genital herpes that isn't going to go down well! I think I'm right in saying that if I've got herpes 1 already I won't get it again? I think that’s what a doctor told me .. It might have been you that told me that actually? Anyway, can I have a herpes test through the post and how much is it please and will it pick up any new infections? Thanks and sorry this for such a long question….but shorter than some I've seen! Deb
We can indeed test you for herpes 1 and 2 using a home urine collection pot and the service works easily and well.
We would ask you to call reception on 020 7637 1600 and reception will take details of the test requested, your name and date of birth and telephone number etc together with payment and then we'll send out the testing pot and return pre paid first class envelope.
Collecting the sample is easy - just wait a minmum of two hours before passing urine and then collect the first part of the stream into the collection pot already labelled with your name and date of birth etc. Pop the entire thing in the post and we will then let you have the results asap by phone, text or email as you prefer. We're also working on an online password protected secure environment for you to access results yourself but this is not quite ready yet - give me a week or two!
In terms of certainty - herpes is always a little tricky unless you have a very characteristic rash on the genitals and a positive sample or swab. Having a negative herpes urine test is useful but I'm afraid does not rule it out completely.
You are right to say that previous infection with herpes 1 does give you some protection against further episodes but again, nothing certain with herpes and it may not give absolute protection.
Remember we can also test you for most genital infections using easily collected urine samples or in some cases for females with easy to use vaginal swabs.
