Post I need some advice to move on

Dear Doctor Sean or Doctor José,

Sorrry to bother again. I wrote you a month ago. Im going to describe you the risk situation again just to remember it. On 28 april 2011, at a gas station, I had a brief skin to skin (hand to hand) contact with a man while passing my credit card, signing voucher and so. The thing that scared me was that he had a quite big (5mm by 5mm, maybe a bit more) wound on his hand that looked white and fresh but I didn´t see if it was bleeding or not. I scared myself because I also had a 24hours old wound on my thumb (from bitting my nails), it was not bleeding and was on the healing process. The question I made to you was, what if his wound made contact with my wound (my wound was very tiny, say 2mm wide or something like that)? Your answer was that there is not risk in this situation and that I should move on.

I was moving on and I almost had forgotten the incident. Me and my wife as usual had unprotected sex, everything was ok. Now I´m a bit worried because last friday night my wife told me she has a sore throat, a mild sore throat. The next day she say the sore throat was almost gone. On sunday she told me she was fine and no sore throat. But on monday she says she feels again a bit of a sore throat and dryness in the throat. Yesterday was almost the same and today she was better with that sore throat, just a bit of dryness. Since the first day she told me about the sore throat, she was feeling fine, NO fever, NO rash, no nothing, she was active and healthy and of good humour, we went to the cinema, and did a normal life. She can eat and drink fine, no problems swallowing food or drinking and she says, when eating there is no pain at all. She actually thinks the sore throat might be because of air conditioning, climate, etc. I´m a bit worried I might have infected her...

Now to the questions to put it simple:

1. The risk assesment of the situation at the gas station remains the same? (I mean the wound to wound contact). If there is a medical explanation for this, I will appreciate it.

2. Two weeks after the "risk situation"at the gas station I felt dryness in my throat (NO pain) and 2 days later I had some nasal congestion and sneezing. These symptoms do not qualify as ARS do they?

3. My wife symptom, the mild sore throat that comes and go, can be considered as ARS? or it requires something else to be considered as ARS?. As I told you she feels fine, very happy, she talks a lot, go in and out, to the office, etc.

Well Doctor, very sorry to ask these silly questions. I will appreciate your answer.

Kind regards,

Daniel

Default I need some advice to move on

Hello again,

I think you're the man in South America?

You've asked the following further questions:-

1. The risk assesment of the situation at the gas station remains the same? (I mean the wound to wound contact). If there is a medical explanation for this, I will appreciate it.It does remain the same - your thought process is irrational and rather paranoid - thats not meant as an insult but just a statement of fact. You are not at risk from this event as previously stated.

2. Two weeks after the "risk situation"at the gas station I felt dryness in my throat (NO pain) and 2 days later I had some nasal congestion and sneezing. These symptoms do not qualify as ARS do they?no see our early symptoms of HIV page

3. My wife symptom, the mild sore throat that comes and go, can be considered as ARS? or it requires something else to be considered as ARS? again, see our early symptoms of HIV page - you do not have HIV and your wife has sniffles. As I told you she feels fine, very happy, she talks a lot, go in and out, to the office, etc.

Best wishes, Sean

Smile Thanks for the answer

Doctor Sean,

Yes doctor, I´m the Soth American man who posted a question more than a month ago.

Many thanks for your answers... I feel much better now. As you noticed, I was a bit worried because of my wifes sore throat, thats all. The sore throat is getting a bit worst, specially during the morning and night, as I told you it gets better when she eats or drink, but it is the only symptom she has and it remains as a disconfort in the throat rather than something very painful.

Sorry for my poor english, but I do not know what sniffles is... It is something like a cold? Can it include just a sore throat?... Very sorry for asking this...

Once again thanks for your answers and congratulations for the wonderful work you are doing, I´m sure it has helped many people and will help many more.

Daniel

I will take this.
'Sniffles' is congestion, runny nose, etc. En español, seria 'mocos' o 'mucosidad nasal', en resumen un catarro. Nothing related with HIV.

Saludos,

José

Default Gracias...just one last question...

Thanks Doctor José for your answer...
