Incident with transexual sex worker (male to female). I gave oral unprotected. Vomited during this. Then I received unprotected anal. No ejaculation. No condom split to the best of my knowledge. Memory hazy at this point.
3 weeks- full std screening in USA including western blot confirmation- all negative.
5 weeks- HIV DUO- negative
Then symptoms- full body rash mostly on arms and legs (esp thighs). swollen lymph nodes, very white tongue. Given cotrisone and anti hystamine- rash went down. Thought I overheard doctors say HIV. Dont know if I am mad or not.
6 weeks- full std screening including HIV DUO test- negative.
Then various symptoms- White uncomfortable tongue, nausea, night sweats. Had blood tests- liver functioning came back irregular. Revealed- I have fatty liver and high ferratin level in blood- 600- not high enough for haemochromatosis, but high enough for chronic disease? Also 2 glandular fever recent detection tests- one positive one negative.
11 weeks- HIV DUO and syphillis test- negative.
Still worried due to liver problems ongoing: here are my q's:
1) are these results conclusive?
2) are liver problems and high iron levels in blood indicative of HIV?
3) Why do I have persistent white and uncomfortable tongue? Could I have picked up an oral std? (I am on anti candida diet to remove thrush, although not diagnosed by a doc, a natural remedy person said it could be)
4) What should I do? I am constantly worried?

Still worried due to liver problems ongoing: here are my q's:
1) are these results conclusive? I think the HIV etc results are - most certainly
2) are liver problems and high iron levels in blood indicative of HIV?no
3) Why do I have persistent white and uncomfortable tongue? Could I have picked up an oral std? (I am on anti candida diet to remove thrush, although not diagnosed by a doc, a natural remedy person said it could be)I can't answer that easily - there are many conditions - very many - which might cause a white tongue - which may or may not be due to thrush. Any viral illness such as glandular fever etc might contribute to that - I know you've had rather conflicting results regarding the glandular fever - but still a possibility
4) What should I do? I am constantly worried?
You need to find a doctor who has experience of infectious diseases - this is a speciality in its own right - and take his or her advice. The HIV tests you have had, at the intervals you have had them confirm that HIV is not a contender. It is reasonable for the doctors you possibly overheard, to speculate about possible HIV - I would have done at that stage. We are taught as doctors always to pick over all the facts again, revisit each possible diagnosis to be sure we don't miss anything. These doctors sound to be doing that. That said, as I have mentioned above, the fact that you have had these multiple HIV tests establishes that HIV is not the cause.
Thanks For your reply. Worrying about these things is particularly crippling.
Just reading over my own post I realised I failed to mention and clarify some things. Firstly the anal sex was protected, not unprotected as the message shows. Secondly I have been on antidepressants for a few months to deal with this problem. Some sites say this could explain the night sweats. The medication is called citalopram. My White Tongue however predated the taking of such pills, and i now believe it to be geographic Tongue. So here is my second and hopefully last bout of questioning:
Could the antidepressants cause the nightsweatss?
Is geographic Tongue indicative of HIV? I don't think I had it pre-incident...
Are my results for HIV fully conclusive? No more tests needed?
Hello,
I have read the previous posts and I totally agree with my colleague Dr Sean's statements. I will answer each of your questions here below:
Could the antidepressants cause the nightsweatss?Yes, it is a possible side effect.
Is geographic Tongue indicative of HIV? I don't think I had it pre-incident...No, it is not, there are many possible causes for this. It is thought that it might even be caused by stress and by certain foods rich in sugar and processed foods
Are my results for HIV fully conclusive? No more tests needed?Your negative test results are fully conclusive and you do not need any further tests. Dr Sean was categorical with that.
Thanks for that both doctors. Appreciate the work you both do, it has been so helpful for me. Will try and put the HIV concerns to bed and see what my symptom and liver problems are REALLY all about.
