Default Just Lost Virginity

Hi Doc,

Couple of weeks ago I decided to have sex for the first time and I decided to do it with an escort. I had protected sex but unprotected oral. I did not notice at first but after the event I noticed what looked like a cold sore on the side of the escort's mouth.

Roughly a week later a developed severe body ache and discomfort in the groin area. A couple of days later I noticed a number of pimple like bumps that scabbed over around the base of penis and pubic area. Most likely herpes (I did not get it tested). After 2 weeks the symptoms have gone.

So my question is besides herpes what other STIs am I at risk from with the unprotected oral sex. Can I get HPV / genital warts from oral sex? How worried should I be?

Also, in case that the herpes I caught is HSV1 does this mean that I cannot pass on this type herpes to someone who already has it orally?

Regards

Hello there,
Thank you very much for your post and welcome to our forum.
From your description, it all seems to point towards herpes simplex type 1. If the person performing the oral sex has an acute outbreak of HSV1 and you do not suffer from cold sores, you are obviosuly at risk of contracting it. You might get further outbreaks, but these tend to be less frequent and less severe. You might not get any more; that all depends on the state of your immune system.
Receiving oral sex ivolves a number of rsiks, apart from herpes, such as Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea and Syphilis. All treatable. These are the kinfd of things that you should be tested for. There is also a possible risk of HPV, but this would be very unlikely. It would be more common to contract HPV through penetrative intercourse, even using condoms, especially in the areas not covered by the condom, as skin to skin friction is enough to pass it on.
To answer your last question: no, you cannot pass it on to anyone that lready suffers from cold sores as they already have HSV1 and thay cannot get this in their genitals.
Best wishes,
José
