I have a question about the different types of herpes virus. I was diagnosed with hsv-2 genital herpes last year after the GUM clinic, where I was tested took a swab from a blister in the first few days of my first outbreak. My symptoms were synonymous with a first outbreak of genital herpes – I had a very bad fever, back ache, swelling in lymph glands in groin area and pain in my bottom when sitting down and whitish blisters near my opening as well as larger fluid filled blisters on the fleshy part of my vagina.
my first partner performed oral sex on me as well as penetrative sex without a condom. I know I wasn’t carrying hsv-1 or 2 because I have never had any cold sores and was a virgin when I met him yet he claims he never had any outbreaks of hsv-2 genital herpes.
I am really confused since the clinic told me that hsv-1 from saliva can become 2 when it enters the genital area through oral sex. Is that right? My previous partner also talked to the GUM clinic I attended and they made a note that it could have been asymptomatic shedding on his part.
My understanding is that I could not have been a carrier of hsv 2 if I was a virgin, but is it possible for me to be a hsv 1 carrier and be a virgin ? I recently learned that there are lots of different herpes viruses. Is it possible to find out which type I have since I have read that hsv-1 genital herpes is not as severe as hsv-2 and is associated with fewer outbreaks and shedding.
The clinic where I was tested don’t do typing so weren’t able to tell me if I had type 1 or 2. Can your clinic can do a blood test to distinguish between hsv-1 and 2 even though I am not experiencing an outbreak or can the typing only be done when I am having some sort of outbreak ?
I’m trying to learn more about this disease because I was supposed to be getting married in a few weeks. I told my partner about it a few weeks ago and he didn’t feel he could go through with the wedding. He has a dermatological condition and gets eczema on his scrotum and I think he was worried that his health problems might be exacerbated if he was to have a sexual relationship with me and he has a daughter and I think he was worried that if he fell ill, he would not be able to see to her needs properly.
I have read that having hsv can be serious for people in a few categories and one of those was people with eczema - he may have realised this as well. Is this true?
I really feel I need to understand about this disease before I meet someone again. I think it may make a difference to a potential partner if they know I have a less serious form of Herpes simplex.
I am starting to keep a diary of any genital conditions that arise so I can monitor whether I am getting outbreaks of herpes or something else. I get thrush quite frequently – I had one episode in may and another just this week – I went to the gum clinic yesterday and the doctor thought the red sores I had in my genital area and the redness in the opening to my vagina were more symptomatic of thrush but that there could be background herpes as I said I had been getting tingling sensations for a few days. She gave me daktacort steroid cream for the sores which has more or les stopped the itching and the red sores have disappeared. the fluconazole capsule has stopped the slight burning pain I was getting and tingling seems to have stopped so I am concluding this was thrush not herpes. I have noticed that the fleshy parts of my vagina are a little bumpy and uneven when I run my finger over them or rub cream and in places appear whitish in colour – the skin in parts is a bit flaky still and I wondered if this is thrush clearing up or if it is something to do with the herpes?
Also I am an Asian female, do you know if there are any dating sites for Asians with herpes – I really don’t know where I can meet Asians in a similar situation as I don’t want to hide this from a potential future partner. The few Asian dating/marriage sites that I’ve come across don’t seem to have a category for people with herpes to meet each other. I hope you can help with all my concerns. Thanks in advance.

Hello

You've posted an enormous question - so I'm going to answer it and then close it.

my first partner performed oral sex on me as well as penetrative sex without a condom. I know I wasn’t carrying hsv-1 or 2 because I have never had any cold soresThis does not matter as you can certainly have herpes 1 = cold sore virus - without having had obvious previous episodes and was a virgin when I met him yet he claims he never had any outbreaks of hsv-2 genital herpes. This is certainly possible and many people do not experience physical outbreaks
I am really confused since the clinic told me that hsv-1 from saliva can become 2 when it enters the genital area through oral sex. Is that right? no - emphatically notMy previous partner also talked to the GUM clinic I attended and they made a note that it could have been asymptomatic shedding on his part.yes, could have been
My understanding is that I could not have been a carrier of hsv 2 if I was a virgin, but is it possible for me to be a hsv 1 carrier and be a virgin ?yes of course - herpes 1 is usually contracted without sexual activity in early childhood I recently learned that there are lots of different herpes viruses. Is it possible to find out which type I have since I have read that hsv-1 genital herpes is not as severe as hsv-2 and is associated with fewer outbreaks and shedding.yes, you can have type specific herpes 1 or 2 testing

I have read that having hsv can be serious for people in a few categories and one of those was people with eczema - he may have realised this as well. Is this true?no more than for anyone else
