Default Need your assessment

Hi, the facts:

About five years ago I had a series of casual of partners (5/6) which included protected vaginal intercourse and unprotected oral both ways. Nothing unique/out of the ordinary about any of the the oral episodes and certainly no blood apparent

I then had a one year serious relationship which included unprotected intercourse

That concluded and I have been in a new relationship for the past three years and we have unprotected sex

About 6 weeks ago I stupidly went for a massage and fingered the masseuse. There was no other sexual contact apart from hand relief. I realised afterwards that I had a tiny nick on my finger from the previous day. No bleeding. The guilt and anxiety caused me to start searching the web for re-assurance, and guess what now I'm here having scared myself to death and wondering what to do.

Up until my research I did not believe I was at any risk at all

I have concluded that my chances of contracting HIV are, if not zero then pretty close and that whilst I have put myself at risk of other STD's the risk is not high. I have nver had any symptoms that may have caused me any concern

Am I right and do you have any recommendations ?

Many thanks

Hello,
Thank you very much for your post.
I would certainly agree with your analysis. No risk at all from the last encounter with the masseuse. The only risks were from the unprotected vaginal intercourses and the oral sex, and even though low, you probably ought to be tested for the most common infections (they would not always given symptoms) with a full STD screening. The risk of HIV would be zero or very close to zero, only related to the unprotected penetrations, but as you mention these were with long term partners, who would be unlikely to be positive in the first place. However one never knows.
Therefore my advice to you is not to worry too much, but to have a full STD screening for peace of mind.
Best wishes,
José

Hi Jose

I followed your advice and had a private screen in the Midlands - all negative, but it occured to me afterwards that something was missing !

They did a throat swab for chlamydia and gonnerhea (because of the oral) but no urine test. I guess that was because I have no symptoms down below ? They did a blood test for everything else.

I know that gonnerhea would definitely have symptoms attached but not neccessarily chlamydia ? Do I need to complete this process with a chlamydia test ?

Thanks in anticpation

I agree, just in case, especially bearing in mind that there was unprotected vaginal intercourse at some stage, but also a hand job. To be on the safe side, it might be worth just having that final test.
Best wishes,
José

Hi Jose

Thanks for your much appreciated help - Completed all tests and everything negative ! so big relief

Just one last small item - Why is "a handjob" significant as a risk factor ?

My last post ! Honest !

A hand job does not involve any significant risk, other than the small possibility of contracting something like Chlamydia if there was some fluid in the hand, as these infections are common and highly contagious. In general one can consider hand jobs safe from the point of view of STDs.
Best wishes,
José
