About 5 weeks ago I gave unprotected oral sex to another man, this was brief and no ejaculation occurred but beforehand I did wipe away some pre-cum on his penis before starting. I'm concerned I may have had some bleeding in my mouth due to a recently damaged tooth and any residual pre-cum may have entered that way. Less than a week later I developed a cough and lost my voice in the mornings but that cleared up; I don't recall a fever, sore throat or rash however.
I visited my local NHS clinic and had a duo test 28 days later which was negative.
I'm still so anxious though, I can barely eat or sleep with worry that the result will turn positive if and when I go for a 12 week test and the prospect of another 2 months feeling like this terrifies me. I'm a 20 year old otherwise healthy man and my partner was similar to me in that respect, he is a friend of mine and not a sex worker.
I have read the excellent resources on your site and seen that the duo test is 99.8% accurate at 28 days but I couldn't find the evidence-base referencing it which made me feel all the more concerned! I noticed that the BHIVA support the 28 day test which was encouraging.
What are your thoughts on my situation? What are the odds of this result turning positive in my situation?
The chance of aquiring HIV from giving a blow job and receiving HIV infected semen into the mouth is very slim indeed - despite the apparent high risk nature of the event.
This didn't happen in your case. You sucked him without ejaculation - and have had a negative HIV DUO at 28 days. A negative DUO combined with an ultra-low risk event = certainty in my mind that you are not HIV positive.
I have read your comments re teeth and bleeding and pre-cum - and understood all of that but none of it changes my view.
If you can't face waiting a further 2 months then test again at 6 weeks post event. The test will be negative.
You are HIV negative and personally, if I were in your shoes, I would not retest.
