Hello Dr,

I am ***** ******* and I have had three tests from your clinic. First one was a HIV Duo test with Dr Mervyn which was post 34 days of exposure. The second was HIV Insti test at 73 days post exposure with Dr Sean and third one was HIV Insti test again at 86 days post exposure with Dr Jose.

1. Today close to 4 month after the exposure I had night sweats. I was feeling a bit feverish (36.8 C) and had muscle aches all afternoon and evening. I had a cold tablet before going to sleep and woke up with sweats. I have had sweats for last couple of days as well.

2. I have a bit of pain below my jaw for last couple of weeks and had Very sore throat for a day. I also had stiff neck which I thought was because of pillow but now I read it could be a symptom of hiv.

3. I can feel the lymph nodes below my neck. Is it normal to feel those even if they are not swollen ?

You guys have always insisted my tests are conclusive but I am worried about these latest symptoms. Do you think you need to see me again and have retest ?

Dr Sean has said in many forums that after the negative test he might want to repeat the test if the person has symptoms and I always wonder after how long post the exposure and after how may tests one could stop worrying about the possible symptoms?

I will appreciate if you could take out my name in the reply. Thank you.

Hello

I've taken your name out straight away.

You are fine - you do not have HIV. You asked the following specific questions:-

You guys have always insisted my tests are conclusive but I am worried about these latest symptoms. Do you think you need to see me again and have retest ?truthfully no - you should save your money and be confident that the tests you have had so far are accurate and conclusive. Each one of your tests has been accurate. We honestly do not need to see you again.

Dr Sean has said in many forums that after the negative test he might want to repeat the test if the person has symptoms and I always wonder after how long post the exposure and after how may tests one could stop worrying about the possible symptoms?I have said that, I agree - but I have always stressed the relevance of symptoms which firstly are true pointers to HIV infection and secondly, rather arrogantly, symptoms which concern us and not necessarily the patient - the symptoms that concern me are a COMBINATION at the same time of HIGH FEVER (39 plus) SEVERE SORE THROAT and whole body rash at around the 4 to 5 week mark post exposure. In your case you have had three excellent tests at distinctly different time frames and all are negative. Your symptoms are not symptoms of HIV infectionThese mean that you are indeed HIV negative

I will appreciate if you could take out my name in the replydone already

best regards, Sean

Thanks a lot for your timely response. It is amazing to see you replying even on the weekends. Hats off to you doctor.

My final question, I have been suffering from GOUT for many years. Can this cause results to be false negative?

Also, If I need counselling with regards to reassurance will you be able to help if I book a telephonic appointment in the future ?

Good Morning

No problem.

You can find a therapist by looking at

http://www.bap-psychotherapy.org/content.jsp

and this will identify some in your locality for you.

Gout will have no effect on your tests.

very best wishes, Sean
