Nine weeks ago I had unprotected oral sex (she performed this on me) and protected vaginal sex twice with a sex worker in Singapore. After the second time I noticed a small amount of blood on the condom and on the base of my penis and realised that she must have started her period.

When I got home I had a 28 day duo test albeit at 26 days due to other business commitments, which was negative. At the time the doctor advised a retest as I was two days short of the recommendations for testing. Since then I have had no symptoms which might suggest HIV infection so my questions are - was I at any risk as a result of the blood in the first instance, and given the test results at 26 days and the lack of any symptoms, do you consider a retest necessary and if so can I take this now or wait until 90 days?

Thanks for posting and I'm sorry for the slight delay.

I do not believe you were at risk at all of HIV because:-

1) being sucked is not a risk for HIV

2) the risk posed by menstrual blood on intact skin at the base of your penis is inconsequential and I do not believe represents a risk at all

3) the HIV DUO test you had, although at 26 days, is absolutely fine in these circumstances and you do not, in my opinion, need to test again.

Overall, from what you've said, I think you're fine.
