Default Question Re: Gonorrhea / Chlam Test

Dr Sean and Jose,

Thank you for a wonderful service, and for fielding the questions of so many of us who are scared by all the conflicting data that is available.

I received insertive oral sex with a massage parlor girl (for less than 5 seconds) and was just about to put all of this behind me

STD Test @ 8 Days: Negative for Chlam / Syph / Herp / Gon
HIV Test at 9 Weeks: Negative (not needed I know)

My concern is that since the incident (if you can call it that) is that I have had some burning sensations at the tip of my urethra. No discharge, no pain while urinating, but the pain seems somewhat constant. What has my anxiety slightly elevated is that I cannot remember if it was a full hour since my last urination prior to the test. It was absolutely 35-45 minutes, but cannot say the full hour took place.

My question is as follows -

a) can you get gonnorhea from 5 seconds of insertive oral sex?
b) Is just pain at the tip of your penis without discharge or painful urination symptomatic of Gon?
c) How impactful is urinating inside the testing window? if in fact I urinated 40 minutes earlier, would the test be less accurate? If so, any clue what that does to the accuracy?

Outside of this burning at the head of my penis, I have no other symptoms to speak of.

Thank you again Dr. Sean.

Default Gonorrhoea and chlamydia test reliability

Hello

Thank you for posting and thank you for your nice remarks.

I'll go straight to your question:-

Quote:
a) can you get gonnorhea from 5 seconds of insertive oral sex? yes, though extremely unlikely indeed. I would not think you have penile gonorrohea as generally it causes a significant discharge
b) Is just pain at the tip of your penis without discharge or painful urination symptomatic of Gon?well you seem to be describing a discomfort rather than a pain - I think there is a good chance that you may be just more "aware" of the discomfort
c) How impactful is urinating inside the testing window? if in fact I urinated 40 minutes earlier, would the test be less accurate? If so, any clue what that does to the accuracy? It is likely that if you had had gonorrhoea etc then the test would have picked it up as the test is very very sensitive. However, I would suggest repeating the test and keeping your urine in your bladder for 2 hours prior to passing urine for the test. You can of course get this test done locally at your GUM clinic free of charge or we can arrange to send you a kit so you can test for chlamydia and gonorrhoea by post just ring our reception on Tuesday after the bank holiday and we can take your details and then send out a testing kit if needed.
I think on balance though you are ok and perhaps just paying your penis a little too much attention following the "episode"

best regards, Sean
