Default Received unprotected Oral sex - your advice please

Hi Jose / Sean

I have visited Freedom Health in the past and seen Dr Garcia, I would appreciate your thoughts on the following:

I received unprotected oral sex from a female Polish sex worker on 27/11 (2 weeks ago) and afterwards I noticed that I had a sore on my penis (caused by masturbation). The sore was not bleeding but it was a sore nevertheless. I am concerned bearing in mind that I do not know the sexual health status of this woman. Can you let me know if there is any chance that her saliva could have infected the sore on my penis with HIV? Is HIV transmitted in this way as I have read conflicting views and am slightly confused.

One other thing, around 1 week later I developed a mild sore throat (not an extremely sore throat) but I still have it and today I felt a little sick (I havnt actually been sick) and am concerned these could be symptoms of early HIV?

If you could let me know your thoughts on the above and if you think I should come in at 28 days for a test it would be appreciated.

Regards

R

Hello,

Thanks for the post.

No, I really do not think you need an HIV test in respect of this episode.

I can see why you might be concerned but in reality there is no risk here. HIV is difficult to spread even in the best of circumstances and this is far from the best.

Even if she was HIV positive which is a bit of an assumption, the amount of HIV in saliva would be tiny and there is no data supporting transfer of HIV to the person being sucked in circumstances like this - in fact, quite the contrary.

Best regards, Sean

Default Thanks Doctor, one final question however

Your quote below

''no data supporting transfer of HIV to the person being sucked in circumstances like this - in fact, quite the contrary''.

When you say quite the contrary do you mean that the saliva would kill the virus rather than assist in in spreading?

I'll put the sore throat down to anxiety then, am I right in thinking that this symptom appeared to early (after around 1 week) and would not usually appear in isolation?

Regards

Hello

Quote:

this means that the data available supports the fact that there is no transfer of hiv to the person being sucked.

best regards, Sean
