Default Reliability of Test Results

Dr Jose,

Let me start by saying thank you again for this service that you provide. As so many of us battle through the sheer terror of whatever mistake we have made, it truly is reassuring to have someone like you on the other side as devoted as you are to helping us cope - and fielding questions when so much information on the web is contradictory. I do not have a clinic such as freedom health close to my location in USA (North Carolina) as if I did I would have already made the visit.

That said, you have already answered a question for me on the risks associated with insertive oral sex (me receiving a blow job).

My question is in regards to the testing I have had done, for starters, what is the reliability of a Qualitative DNA PCR test done the Roche Platform at 20 days? I was told by the testing service, that this was done on the latest generation through labcorp -but that Roche was the manufacturer. My PCR DNA test was negative at 20 days.

I ask because I have received conflicting feedback regarding how reliable this test is at 20 days. Most agree at 28 days this is conclusive, some say 14 - I believe I read on one of your posts (an excellent post re: testing and window period) it's as early as seven days from exposure.

What is the difference in reliability between the HIV Antibody test that labcorp draws blood for and the Unigold Rapid test that I had done? It is my understanding that both test for antibodies. Would it be possible for a Rapid Test to give me a negative result and the HIV-1 Antibody test (EIA) to show positive since they both are testing for antibodies? I had the rapid test done six weeks from exposure on the same day (negative) that I had my EIA Test at the six week mark and am struggling with the waiting period to get my results.

Would you be so kind as to answer some of my questions / concerns.....

This is a wonderful service and I thank you for the commitment you make to all us out here.....

Default Reliability of HIV Test results

Hello,

Ironic but I'm actually in Atlanta Georgia on a HPV Lower Genital Tract Disease course so closer than you think!

There are a number of key issues in your question.

1) you were never ever at risk of HIV infection through being sucked. I don't care what you've read or where you've read it but there is no chance at all, ever, of you acquiring HIV through being sucked.

2) You did not need a PCR test but it is accurate - very very accurate especially at the time interval described. You are not HIV positive from the blow job event or indeed any other event.

3) You did not need the other HIV tests. I'm not even going to begin to indulge the question regarding the theoretical possibilities of one test being positive and the other being negative.

You need to understand that:-

You were never at risk or exposed.
The overly comprehensive tests you have had have proved you to be HIV negative.

You are not HIV positive - now forget this.

best regards, Sean
