Dear Friends. I have certain doubts that make me feel uncomfortable. The facts are as follows:
1. Yesterday I got a mouth cleaning at 7:00pm. There was blood (specially in my gums) and some visual open wounds.
2. Around 2:00am, I got involved in sex with a prostitute. I got protected oral sex followed by protected vaginal intercourse. This was with the same condom, which at the end I reviewed and it was perfect (not broken nor out of place). I performed some cunnilingus, very superficial and for no more than 30 seconds and some deep fingering (no visible wounds in my finger).
My questions are: Was the cunnilingus risky for HIV due to the prior mouth cleaning and wounds in my gums and mouth? Was the use of the same condom for both (oral and vaginal) was risky? Was the fingering risky? Shall I perform an HIV test or can I continue my life?
Was the cunnilingus risky for HIV due to the prior mouth cleaning and wounds in my gums and mouth? I doubt it in reality but yes, there is a very faint and unlikely possibility. Was the use of the same condom for both (oral and vaginal) was risky?no Was the fingering risky? noShall I perform an HIV test or can I continue my life?well ideally you can do both - I would suggest that you do have an HIV test - having work on your mouth and then a few hours later performing oral sex on a sex worker seems a bit foolish. I do not think ultimately you will be HIV positive but you should test at the recommended interval - 4 weeks using a 4th generation HIV DUO test.
Thank you Dr., to be honest I did not expected the existence of risk (based in the info that there are no documented cases for cunnilingus, saliva properties, etc). I know it was foolish but I was aware of it and was very careful. This was in a superficial area in the “arounds”. Never got inside only some kissing and tongue massage in the out-lips, probably clit, but never got inside or deep.
Any way, I am a little nervous now and will need to avoid unprotected sex with my wife. As for the test, I do not know if in Mexico we have it. There is one named HIV Ag/Ac Combo which is probably the one you are talking about. Now I cross my fingers everything will be ok.
You're right of course, the risk is small - but you may have magnified the possibility by going along to see the lady with a freshly injured mouth from the dental hygienist.
Thanks a lot Sean. I will perform the test as advised; however, based in your comments and what I learned in other forums, I think is fair for me to be calm and take it easy since I understand the risk is really small ( even with the wounds).
