Default Risk and PCR Testing Question

Hello:

I have a bit of a recurring problem with sex addiction and recently just had another binge session. Although, being obsessive compulsive, I tried to be as careful as possible, I had three sexual encounters I am worried about.

1. With an unknown man who I had protected receptive anal sex with and protected oral sex with. The bit I am worried about here is that in addition to lube, he used quite a bit of spit as a lubricant. We also played a bit with a fairly large dildo (brand new) so I may have had cuts or damage up there.

2. Protected oral and protected receptive anal sex with a male escort. He said the condom didn't break and also that he was tested regularly, but I am concerned.

3. Protected vaginal sex with a female escort. What I am worried about here is that I fingered her for a while I had a couple of cuts around my fingernails where I picked some hangnails.

Am in a complete and utter panic about this now and am seriously considering coming in to FreedomHealth on Monday (10 days after last encounter) for a PCR test as I am convinced I must have put myself at risk. I have been to FreedomHealth after previous binges for testing but never had a PCR test done.

My fear is that I have read about false positives with PCR and I don't think I could handle a false positive. But on the other hand, I don't think I will be able to wait 28 days for a standard test. Could you please tell advise me what the best course of action here would be.

Kind Regards,

David

I don't think the spit is a risk at all - even assuming the worst which is that the other guy might be HIV positive which is unlikely.

well look, there's no real answer to that apart from for you to test - neither you or I can know the answer to the condom question - it is more than likely that he was telling the truth - but if there is doubt then you need to test at an appropriate interval

3. Protected vaginal sex with a female escort. What I am worried about here is that I fingered her for a while I had a couple of cuts around my fingernails where I picked some hangnails.
no risk -

cold light of day analysis suggests that all of this was disease wise uneventful - I would really encourage you to be calm about it - I really don't think you are at risk of HIV - if you do decide to have a PCR I do not believe there is a real risk of a false positive, we've done very many and we have not had an inaccurate result to date.

Kind Regards,
best regards - relax!

Default Thank You

Hi Dr. Sean:

Thanks so much for the information and risk assessment.

Could you please confirm that it is still true that the PCR results take 5 days to come in? I was reading an article yesterday that was saying that the amplification process can now be done in a matter of hours.

Cheers,

David

Default Risk and PCR testing question

Hello again,

No, I'm afraid our lab takes up to 5 working days I'm afraid.

Best wishes, Sean
