Default Safe sex, dumb move

Hi,

Just wanted to know the risk factor of mainly getting HIV and other STDs from the episode mentioned below.

Recently I (Male) had protected sex with a female sex worker in Bristol. Firstly, she gave me oral sex with a condom on, during this time I was fingering her. We continued to full sex followed by the sex worker masturbating me until finish. During this whole process I had a condom on, however while still highly intoxicated I attempted to pull the condom from the tip of the penis. Once taken off, I swiped the fluid on my leg and the remaining seman on the tip of my penis I removed with the same fingers (which was used to finger her and remove the condom). Once this was done, the sex worker gave me a wipe which I used to clean my penis tip. Is there a chance of catching HIV through this process (or any other STDs).

The next day, I woke up with the tip/inside of the penis a little sore with a very very mild burning sensation and itchy testicles a day later. (Must mention that the sore and burning sensation had occurred to me on a previous experience a few years back and results all came back negative after exposure (may be a reaction to alcohol, condom and sex).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated,

Good Morning,

I really like the concise heading! "Safe sex, dumb move"

I don't think there is any risk of HIV here - none at all and I think you should relax about that.

It might be worth having a general STD screen to exclude chlamydia, NSU etc in few days but I think these are unlikely too and much more likely to be due to as you say, too much alcohol, sex and condoms etc.

On balance I'm not concerned.

Best regards, Sean

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply, just entering another scenario so I understand my risk, what about if I didn't wipe my finger on my leg after removing the condom then a few seconds later, wiping the top of my penis with the same finger.

My concerns are mostly with HIV.

Thank you for your kind help and glad you liked the title - this will be my last question so you can help others more concerned

No, that would not change the risk estimation given by my colleague, Dr Sean Cummings.
There is no risk of HIV infection at all wahtsoever.
Kind regards,
José

I had the incident on the 18th of this month, when would be the best time to get a general STD check up (should I include the HIV test or is this unnecessary).

thanks.

Hello again,

I would suggest a screen for general STD's such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea at just say 7 days or so after the event. Modern testing techniques allow for very early detection of these diseases so you will be certain at 7 days. Syphilis, HIV, hepatitis B by conventional testing should be done at 28 days post exposure - although note that I do not believe these are relevant to you.

Thank you, by the way, for your nice comments - much appreciated.

very best wishes, Sean
