Default Seborrheic dermatitis diagnosis after 1 year 5 months

After testing negative at 4 months post exposure - November 23, 2007, I have been diagnosis with Seborrheic dermatitis today. I had itchiness on the face, cheeks, eye lids , beard, mustache, and flaky skin between the eye lids on the forehead. This all started 4 months ago. It is now 1.5 years. I was tested at a clinic, 4 months post my exposure and I was told that I am negative.

I am begining to worry that this could have been a false negative. I have never experienced these things on my face in the past. I am very worried and scare because I am married and messed up. I waited 4 months to make sure my wife was safe before engaging in sexual intercourse but with this turn of event, I am begining to lose self control. I am very confused. I don't know.........., I don't know what I could do with myself should my retest come positive.

Hello

Seborrheic dermatitis is very common and most people with it are not HIV positive.

It is possible that you had a false negative - though highly unlikely. It is worth testing again to be sure.

It is also possible that the seborrhoeic dermatitis diagnosis is wrong and that you have something else.

I would suggest:-

1) keep calm and have another HIV test to reassure you
2) see a doctor who is used to HIV / HIV related skin conditions and get the seborrheoic dermatitis checked also.

I think most likely you are not HIV positive and you just have seb derm = easily treated.

Best regards, Sean

Hello

I am not the perosn who posted the initial question, but if that person had a negative HIV test 4 months post exposure and did not have any further exposures, why would another test be recommended?

In this way, anyone with symptoms after a negative test (e.g. eczema, diarrhoea etc.) will need to repeat a negative HIV test after the window period.

Thanks.

I don't understand which bit of the earlier answer you didnt understand- it wasn't terribly complicated. If you read it you'll see why - he has concerns not so far addressed by his negative test so my response is

keep calm and have another HIV test to reassure you

duh!
