Default So much information adds to worry

Hello Dr Jose,

I had a few concerns, if you could kindly help out. Around 7 months ago, i (male) received unprotected oral sex from a female for a while and i had ejaculated in her month. Anyway, later on i also went through a liver surgery and its techincally half cut off.

A month ago, i received an erotic massage and well, honestly, can't say for sure if anything happened or not, i.e. sexual related. Yesterday, (7 months from first exposure and 4 weeks from 2nd possible exposure) i had a Hiv antibodies plus antigen test which came out to be negative.

Questions:

- Is this is a conclusive test for both the exposures ?

- Is the antibody plus antigen at 4 weeks very accurate? is this regardless the kind of exposure? for e.g. lets say someone even had unprotected vaginal sex? would this 4 week test still be conclusive?

- all this has led me to so much stress, there is just so much information overload on the internet with so much conflicting information that it just makes me weak. i wanted to get married soon but all this makes me think should i still wait another 6 months, or can i move on with no more tests? please help me out in this matter and like everyone around here, thank you so much for the clear and informative advise given by you all, much much appreciated

Hello,
Thank you very much for your post and welcome to our forum. I will answer each of your questions here below:

- Is this is a conclusive test for both the exposures ?Yes, it is. As it is more than 4 weeks from the last episode.

- Is the antibody plus antigen at 4 weeks very accurate? is this regardless the kind of exposure? for e.g. lets say someone even had unprotected vaginal sex? would this 4 week test still be conclusive? It is 99.98% relaible at 28 days, regrdless of the kind of exposure. In any case, your exposures seem to be very low or no risk at all from HIV infection.

- all this has led me to so much stress, there is just so much information overload on the internet with so much conflicting information that it just makes me weak. i wanted to get married soon but all this makes me think should i still wait another 6 months, or can i move on with no more tests? No need to wait that long. You are absolutely fine. You do not have HIV. However make sure that you get tested for Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea as these are common and easy to catch through oral sex
Best wishes,
José

Thumbs up

Thanks Dr Jose - I will have the other tests you mentioned.

I'm really counting on the point where you said that [b] regardless of the kind of exposure, the test at 28 days will be accurate - plz have a look at my results, i am hoping this is as accurate as the one you spoke about :

Test - HIV 1 and 2 Abs + p.24Ag (serum)
Result - 0.39
Units - S/CO
Ref range - Negative <0.9
Methodology - MEIA

Whilst i understand, that the 7 month old exposure can be forgotten - the recent one of the massage is something i can't remember well enough, therefore was doubting any sexual activity involved. However, i am assuming that even if something had happened, this would be known through the test i did ?

This means so much to me - and can i really go ahead for marriage now, leaving behind all this?

Thank you so much !!

Good morning,

Jose did answer your further question in his first answer which is yes, the HIV test you had after the less than memorable erotic massage would be fine. Personally I would have asked for my money back .. for the massage ..if it was that bad I couldn't remember it but thats a different story.

I / we wont get into the numbers you've quoted in respect of the HIV test. We don't report the tests in that form. You're either negative or positive and you're NEGATIVE.

Best regards, Sean
