Default Stress and HIV

Dear Doctors

First of all can I add to the many contibutors who can say that your forum is the best professional advice site in the UK that is easily available.

Just over 28 days ago I performed oral sex on a guy who I found online in gaydar, he never ejaculated nor was I aware of any pre cum (he was in his forties I guess) Ever since i have been stressed wondering if I had contracted HIV although your site suggests the risk is low.

I did visit a private clinic two days ago but the doctor was more concerned that a massage I had 3 months ago ended with the guy "dipping" me unprotected and advised that I had the 4th generation insti test which proved negative. The Doctor said the instance of the oral sex 28 days ago was of no significance as the risk is minimal.

Since having the oral sex 28 days ago I have been stressed with worry as a few days after I developed sinus, since then I have had a lot a cattarah which is something I am prone to get at various times of the year.

I also have a slightly sore throat and my neck aches and I am not sure if its glandular or muscular? The one thing I notice is that it comes and goes, sometimes giving my aches in my arms and about 6" down from my arm pits. I have tried to see if my glands are swollen but not sure what i am looking for, but in pushing them with my fingers it dosnt fell painful.

I did wonder if the aches in the neck and arms is just stress and worry or some symptons of HIV, and do I need another test at at 3 months after the oral exposure?

I would be greatful for your advice

Hello,
Thank you very much for your post and welcome to our forum.
I agree with the doctor that you went to see. Performing oral sex involves a negligible risk from the point of HIV infection. If the test that you had included the p24 antigen, this test would cover you for the oral sex episode as well and you would not need to have any further tests. Anyhow there is no need for you to be tested in the first place because of the very low risk. Your symptoms are non-specific and I do not believe that they have anything to do with HIV sero-conversion. They might be related to your anxiety about the whole thing. However they might be consistent with other possible STDs that you might have contracted, especially throat Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea. there is also a risk of syphilis from oral sex. therefore I would recommend you being tested for these.
Best wishes,
José

Default stress and HIV

The insti test the doctor carried out on me was the 12 week test as he was more concerned about the unprotected sex 3 months ago rather than the 28 day oral sex. I do intend to get checked out for the other std's you mention just to be safe. I assume then that I do not need another HIV test at 12 weeks for the oral exposure

with best wishes for you help

Alan

Receiving a blow job does not carry any risk of HIV infection. Therefore you do not need to be tested for HIV relating to that episode.
Best wishes,
José
