Default Test reports

Hello Dr Jose,

Hope all is well. For starters, thank you all so much for providing this service for us which helps us clear many doubts and put us at ease.

Moving on, i (male) received unprotected oral sex from a female quite a few months and and complete erotic massage without clothes 6 weeks back on two occasions. My questions/concerns are:

- I did a hiv duo test at 6 weeks, i know you have said countless times here that its conclusive. However is it just in the UK that this is considered conclusive or other countries as well for this time frame of 6 weeks? Like Canada, etc all suggest 12 weeks. Would it be possible to point out some other countries which believe 6 weeks is fine as well.

- Also, i was concerned about HPV and this PCR test done. I have mailed you a copy of the result, if you could kindly have a look at it and tell me if this is a reliable test or should i do something else.

With regards to the above two main concerns, can i go ahead and get married which would obviously involve unprotected sex ?

Would appreciate your answer either here or through email (if possible).

THanks !

Hello,
Thank you very much for your post and e-mail with your test results.
First of all, I would like to say that you did not put yourself at risk of HIV infection, and hence a HIV test was not even warranted. I can assure that your HIV Duo test at 6 weeks is fully conclusive. We consider these test final and conclusive already after 4 weeks because the p24 antigen is already detectable after 14 days reaching its highest levels at 4 weeks. France, Spain and other European countries also follow these guidelines. It is not necessary to wait as long as 12 weeks anymore and that only would apply for the antibody test only and not the Duo test. However in practical terms, a negative antibody test can also be considered conclusive after 8 weeks.
Your HPV test is highly sensitive and reliable, excluding the presence of HPV on the area tested only.
Because you had unprotected oral sex, you shoudl be tested for Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea and Syphilis. If you already have been tested for these andf the tests are all negative, it would then be possible for you to resume unprotected sex with your wife.
Best wishes,
José

Thank you so much for the clear reply. Though my exposure was not risky, lets say it was then would i still be fine . Reason i ask is because i currently have very high fever 101 and sore throat. Is it any cause for concern ?

Also you mentioned hpv on the tested area only. Can it happen on other areas and which are harmful.

Thanks !

Your symptoms have nothing to do with HIV. It sounds that what you have is an episode of tonsillitis, possibly bacterial, for which you would require antibiotics.
HPV is endemic among sexually active individuals; it is extremely common. Most of the time, HPV does not cause any problems and it can be present almost anywhere in the body, including genitals and anus. Some strains can potentially cause cervical, penile and anal cancer. It has also been associated with mouth and throat cancer. Transmission happens through skin to skin friction, i.e. vaginal sex, anal sex, oral sex. In you case, we know that you do not have HPV in your genitals; therefore you will not transmit it to your wife. In any case, all sexually active women should be screened regularly for HPV and cervical smears.
Best wishes,
José

You do seem to have had your two replies so I think the answer to that is yes.

best wishes, Sean
