Default Testing

Hi,

I wanted to inquire regarding testing for other STD's with urine sample - is it true that you should not urinate for atleast 2 hours before having the test?

I was not told of anything like this and had myself tested at a local clinic. Would i need to test again as i did not meet the required gap of atleast 2 hours .?

Thanks

Default Testing

Good Morning

Two hours is the ideal time frame to make sure we have a decent sample. Ideally you should wait two hours or more to make sure you have nice concentrated urine which will give us a good sample.

If you missed this time frame by a few minutes this does not matter. If you missed it by a substantial amount then it may have generated a false negative.

We use painless collection of urine samples for chlamydia, gonorrhoea, mycoplasma, ureaplasma, herpes 1 and 2 and trichomonas and gardnerella testing. Some of the NHS GUM Clinics will still use penile and or vaginal swabs as well or instead of.

So the fact that you may not have waited 2 hours may in fact not make any difference because they may have taken the samples by additional means.

Very best wishes, Sean

Thanks for the reply. No there were no other methods used and the doctor was like the tests are sensitive and so do not require the waiting period.

Do you think i should be tested at another clinic again. Reason being the gap was only around one hour

If you want to be completely certain, then i tmight be a good idea to repeat the test making sure that you do not empty your bladder for at least 2 hours before you produce the sample.
Best wishes,
José
