Default Very Confused

Hi Drs,

I had unprotected sexual exposure (oral and vaginal) and 12 weeks after the last expsoure I have undergone the following:

- HIV (Antibody and Antigen test) at 4,6, 8, and 12 weeks. Result: Negative
- Hep B (Ag) at 12 weeks. Result: Negative
- Hep C at 12 weeks, Result: Negative

I recently did the following:

- SGPT (124 U 1/L)
- SGOT (52 U 1/L)
I understood from the lab technician that these results are at the higher end. Can this be as a result of Hep B and/or Hep C?

Also, my LDL is 111mg/dl

Thank you.

Hello,
Thank you for your post and welcome to our forum.
All your test results are final and fully conclusive and they exclude the possibility of HIV, Hepatitis B and C. Therefore the abnormal liver function tests are not related to these infections. You have not been tested to Hepatitis A, even though you might have been immunised. Those abnormalities could also be related to alcohol consumption, medication, a fatty liver, other viral infections, etc. I would advise that you reduce your alcohol intake, improve your diet to reduce cholesterol levels, and also get a liver ultrasound scan. You should monitor the liver function test over the next few weeks, in order to ensure that they gradually get back to normal.
More information about Hepatitis can be found here.
Best wishes,
José

Thank you doctor.

So these tests are conclusive and there is no need to worry about them right?

I was taking Brufen 600 (IBuprofen BP) for four days before I did the test. As I read over the internet that this medication contributes to increased liver enzymes. Is this so?

Thanks.

Yes, they are fully conclusive.
Many medications can affect the liver, causing abnormalities on the liver function tests. Ibuprofen might have done so.
Kind regards,
José
