Whilst in Morroco 4 weeks ago, i got very drunk and had sex with a sex worker, during intercoarse my condom split. I did not make much of the incident as a Dentist friend told me there was very little risk.
Since then i have had sex with my partner, and recently noticed that she had a sore throat and headache.I panicked and came accross your site. Since then my mind has been going crazy i feel like i have all the symptoms!!
I did not get a body rash or fever, i had a cough whilst i was in Morocco which got worse when i returned.
Hello,
Thank you very much for your post and welcome to our forum.
As any single episode of condom failure in penetrative vaginal intercourse, the risk of HIV infection for the man penetrating would be relatively low, but not risk free. There is certainly a possible risk of HIV and other infections and as such it is important to have been tested. Testing for Chalmydia and Gonorrhoea is very important as these infections are very common and very easy to transmit, and they would not always cause any symptoms. Regarding HIV, the risk of infection would have been low, but not zero. Assuming that this sex worker was positive, the risk for you would have been less than 0.1% (less than 1 in 1,000); and the risk of you having infected your partner since would have been even less. Therefore I do not believe that you really need to worry about HIV. However I would strongly recommend you having a full STD screening, including HIV, for your peace of mind and your partner's sake.
Best wishes,
José
