Default Gonorrhea and HIV

Hi Doc,

I met a woman online whom I didnt know very well (and def didnt know her sexual history) but I am assuming she is promiscous because she went to bed with me right away. We had protected vaginal intercourse (the condom kept rolling up because I didnt use lubricant, but I think the top part of penis was covered all the time, or at least I ensured the penis was covered everytime I went in..didnt see any obvious breaks on the condom either) but she performed oral on me uncovered.

Now a week later I got diagnosed with gonorrhea and Im scared shitless. I am gonna assume hypothetically that she has syphilis and herpes and HIV as well. Am I now at increased risk for contracting HIV? i am still waiting for my syphilis results and Hep C results. what are the chances that I may have gotten HIV?

also i got my Hep B booster shot 15 yrs ago. my doc said that its possible I dont have Hep B immunity anymore and I should get another Hep B booster shot..is he right that I may have lost my Hep B immunity?

Default Gonorrhoea and HIV

Hello,

Thanks for your post.

It sounds as though for the most part the head of your penis was covered by a condom, meaning that the likelihood of HIV infection is negligible.

Gonorrhoea is commonly carried in peoples throats and around 90% of people who have gonorrhoea in their throats do not know they have it - ie they do not have any symptoms. So it is entirely possible and probable that your penile gonorrhoea infection came from the oral sex on you.

Syphilis in the heterosexual population in the UK is rare and I do not think that a likely possibility.

The tests you have had so far for syphilis and Hepatitis C - at one week - are too early.

So I think from what you have said that:-

1) you will not have acquired HIV even if the lady had it
2) you will not have acquired syphilis because it is very unusual in heterosexuals in the UK (note that the test you have had is too early anyway, but that does not mean that I think it likely you will have syphilis - I do not)
3) you ought to repeat the tests you have had so far at 28 days along with an HIV DUO test.

That will then give you certainty regarding all of this.

Best regards, Sean

Default test

Ok thanks for the reply Doc.

Are you suggesting I take HIV test just for peace of mind, since its highly unlikely I would have gotten it?

Thamks
