Default Hiv

Hello.

I can only comment about our clinic. If we have a new HIV positive result (which unfortunately happens quite often) then all our patients are referred to NHS clinics nearby for assessment and treatment if thats what they wish. Some wish to be treated privately which is fine, and this is done in-house by our HIV specialists Dr Mike Youle and Dr Mervyn Tyrer.

If people wish to be seen in the NHS then we have excellent links with all major centres in London and our newly diagnosed HIV positive patients are seen very swiftly.

Best regards, Sean

Default Took my breath away

Hello Dr Sean Cummings

I was trying to book an appointment for HIV test at your clinic due to previous sexual encounters with escorts. I had a lot of contacts in last few years, all were with condom, but most were without a condom for oral both ways. I had a negative Insti HIV test in July 08, and from Mid April until 20 June 08, I saw 4 escorts (about 7-8 encounters with unprotected oral sex both ways but ALWAYS protected vaginal sex).

I have been so concerned when you said in a reply that unfortunately you see HIV positive results quite often, it really took my courage to get a test.

I know I need to be brave and get a test. As far as I understand, the negative Insti test in July 08 would have covered previous encounters in last few years, however as my last exposure was on 20 June 08 (NONE afterwards), what is the chance for me to get a negative HIV test (either DUO or Insti).

Thanks

Hello, there!
The Insti test taken in July 2008, will cover you for any exposure to the virus from three months earlier, so from April 2008 and before. The encounters that you had after April were all safe, as you used a condom for penetrative intercourse. The risk of becoming infected by oral sex for you is practically none. No real risk when you were receiving he oral sex, and very very low when you were giving it. The theoretical risk would be slightly higher, still very low, for the ladies giving you the blowjobs.
All in all, I strongly believe that you are fine and not need to worry and your test will be negative. You can do an Insti now and I am totally confident that the result will be negative.
Best wishes,
Jose
