Default HIV P24 Ag

Dear Doctors,

I would kindly request you to clarify one point which is very confusing for me:

I was checking Roche Cobas Elecsys brochure (pdf document link is at the bottom of this text), and I've read that it is used for the detection of p24 antigen of HIV-1 (group M and group O). Furthermore in the brochure under the column "Subtype detection" you see that the sensitivity for HIV Ag detection was evaluated by testing virus stocks of different HIV-1 group M subtypes (A, B, C, D, AE, F, G, H, O) and HIV-2. If you check the graphic shown under this part (Subtype detection), it is clearly shown that Elecys HIV Ag detects also HIV-2.

So, my question is: Isn't this HIV Ag the same antigen (P24 antigen) used in the so-called Hiv Duo test of Roche Cobas? If so, shouldn't Roche Hiv Cobas test used at TDL detect also HIV-2? (I am not talking about antibody detection, but P24 antigen detection. I know that HIV Duo checks for Hiv-1 and 2 antibodies). While asking this question, I don't know which Roche test is used by TDL (i.e. Cobas Core Hiv Combi OR Elecsys Hiv Combi).

Thank you very much in advance,
Jerry.

Hi, Jerry!
TDL uses Cobas.
Thank you for the information.
Best wishes,
Jose
