Default HIV test after 38 days

Hi

I just got my HIV results that I took 38 days after potential exposure and it was Negative. I did it in a London NHS hospital. They took a blood sample and the results were available over the phone in a few days.

I am not sure what type of test the NHS does for HIV.

How accurate is a Negative af 38 days?

Thanks.

Hello,
Thank you for your post.
That all depends on the test, bothe the antibody test and the Duo test are offered in some NHS units. If it was the antibody test, this would not be conclusive at 38 days as one would need to wait 12 weeks. However if this was the 4th generation HIV Duo test, which also detects the p24 antigen, this is final and fully concluaive after 28 days. You should obviosuly try to find out from them.
Best wishes,
José
