Default Transmission rate

Hello,

Hiv Transmission risk even in very high risk activities like unprotected anal sex is around 1 %. İ wonder how there can be 1.1 million hiv poz. people in usa of transmission risk is extremely low. Makas me wonder whether the transmission risk is higher than known or not.

Thanks

Hello,
Thank you for your post.
The estimated risk of a man or a woman having unprotected receptive anal sex with another man is 3% if the man is HIV positive. This is highly significant and would certainly account for the numbers of infected people. The more unprotected sexual encounters, the more the risk.
Best wishes,
José
