I heard that (many or majority of? i'm not sure) HIV positive people have no symptoms at all for several years after the exposure. They live like normal people. Is that true? If so why does it happen? because it is so scary.
Well first off, they are normal people in the main, they just happen to have a chronic infectious disease. There's generally nothing particularly special about them I don't think.
Usually people become infected with HIV, then a few weeks after - say 2-4 weeks, they develop a classic acute HIV seroconversion illness whne they become unwell temporarily.
After that people infected with HIV will commonly improve clinically and have no particular symptoms for many years.
Early identification of HIV infection and monitoring will allow people to live longer healthy lives even though they may have HIV and also will reduce the spread of HIV to others.
Thank you. I got it. So the symptoms appear after 2-4 weeks. If we do not get the illness during that period most likely we are safe from HIV, aren’t we?
And what about any open wounds or infections around their penis or anal. Do they have them? Because the virus can be transmitted through the sore around the area.
How do we know if that person got HIV except from blood test and if that person has no symptoms?
