I am a 27 year old male who received unprotected oral sex approximately 13 days ago from a 20 year old female from a one night stand of unknown STD status. I did not have full sex with her, nor did I perform oral sex on her. There did not appear to be any obvious facial presentation of oral herpes, but I know that this does not really matter as she could have been viral shedding anyway. She assured me that she didn't have anything and had been celibate for 18 months, but then she could well have had something and not know about it anyway!! I fingered her and there was some touching of her anus, shortly after which I touched my penis.
I am very worried about contracting genital Herpes from this incident and you advice would be much appreciated!!
I have felt worried and not been myself since the event occurred and have lost my appetite, which I have read is a symptom of Herpes. A few days after the event I felt some discomfort in the left had side of my groin and lower abdomen, which a few days later was followed by discomfort in my urethra. I visited a private STD clinic 8 days after the event and explained my symptoms and was urine tested for Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Mycoplasma, Ureaplasma, Candida, NSU and normal water infection. All were negative, this worried me even more as in my mind this made the "symptoms" even more likely to be Herpes.
The Doctor inspected my penis and said it looks healthy and normal at day 8, but I am now at day 13 post possible exposure and for the past 5 days I have still felt the discomfort in the left hand side of my groin and lower abdomen (there is no discomfort on right hand side) could this be swollen lymph nodes? Does this normally present in one side only with primary Herpes infection?
I do not have any obvious lesions or blisters, nor have I felt any fever, flu like symptoms, itching or tingling. I have had shooting/stabbing pains/discomfort in my urethra (about 1cm in from tip of penis) for the past 5 days, and an increased need to urinate during the day, all of which I have read are symptomatic of primary Herpes infection.
There is howveer, no pain or discomfort on urination. The pains and discomfort in the left groin and lower abdomen and urethra come and go (though urethral ones are more regular), and discomfort is worse when I am sitting or laying down.
I know that Herpes blood testing cannot be done until 4 months post possible exposure, and whilst the urine test can be conducted within 2 weeks, this is not conclusive.
Does this sound like Herpes to you? Would you expect Herpes to present obvious blisters/lesions within this time frame with the symptoms I have mentioned normally?
I am extremely anxious about this and am constantly checking myself by inspecting my urethra and searching the internet (I know this doesn't really help!) for symptoms, please help with some professional advice!!!
No this doesn't sound like herpes. It sounds like you are very anxious about it and you are inspecting your penis too often. Leave it alone.
You've established already that you do not have any other bacterial STD's by your visit to your local clinic. The doctor examined you and said your penis was normal.
You can test for genital herpes by a blood test at 3 months post exposure.
Howvever, even though you have fixed on the diea of having genital herpes, I think it is unlikely and even irrational.
